    New to Explosive Movements

    Hi all,

I am new to learning power clean, and the rest of explosive movements. But I injured myself when lifting the bar on the shoulders. Now I recovered and want to start again.

Also I am starting work out with 1 - 2 repetitions of 90% of maximum weight.

Any advise for a newbie, I am 45 y.o., do yoga, have been going to the gym all my life, on and off,, with the split routine...

    Any opinions, comments?

    thanx

In addition to warming up thoroughly you must learn proper form before you try any explosive movement or you're gonna get hurt. Take some time to learn proper form. An example is the bench press....anyone can just lay down on a bench and press a weight off their chest. Sounds simple right? Well if that's all your after it is simple but if you want to do a powerlifting competition bench it will take years to learn proper form. I've been working out for about 35 years and I continue to refine my bench press technique.

If you are not interested in competition then you just need to learn good, safe form when training explosively. But it sure is fun to continue to learn and push yourself to exceed your personal records. Above all be safe and listen to your body.
