Mirrors... Importance for you ?
I just registered to a second gym, at school. Thing is, the gym as no mirrors.
I'm not chillin to the point i can't lift without it, but I find it so more difficult to not see yourselft when lifting.... Can be cuz I can't see if my lifting technique and movement are correct, or simply the motivation it gives when you work hard and see the worked muscle pumpin.
What's you opinion on the importance of mirrors in a gym ?Last edited by SayHelotomylilFriend; 04-16-2008 at 10:11 AM.

i always use the mirrors and think id struggle without them but if it was necessary then id get used to it.
they are good to monitor form and developement.
i think it will just take some adjustment.

I like the mirrors too. Maybe I've just gotten use to them because I've always had them.

I need the mirror to make sure the bar is straight when doing bench press, deads, rows...ect and I find my form and ROM is always better when I'm watching it in the mirror.

i think they're totally necessary, they help with your form as well as range of motion etc

Maybe I'm just vain, but my motivation is way higher when I work out in front of the mirror.

I rarely use mirrors. I try to pick a spot on the wall and focus on it while I lift

I need the mirrors. Incline press, all rows I always have my head looking at mirror seeing if my shoulders are square, tri pull down, tri kick backs. I would be lost without a mirror. Walking into a gym with no mirrors would be as weird as waking up in a strange house with an even stranger looking b!tch

Helps with form as well as mental focus. Yes its nice to see the extreme pump that you just got from lifting, gets some people real motivated. Also If you are prepping for a bb'ing competitiong and want to see progress with definition, striations, symmetry, or just to see the mass you have then its also great for that. You can also work on your poses too after doing sets. (This is for peeps actually entering a competition, not just to be "cool" )

Although I agree with the above posts about checking form, I would take this on as a new challenge. Without the aid of mirrors you can now totally focus internally to further the connection mentally with your working muscles.
Pros such as Darrem Charles and Chris Dickerson preffer training in a full sweatshirt to increase the mental concentration during the lift.
I myself will close my eyes or simply stare out in space to where my vision is slightly blurred because I want to see my muscles contracting in my Minds Eye.
The more mentally connected you are the better progress you'll make. So good for your gym not to have any mirrors.
as far as checking yourself out. do it at home after you lift.

I don't deadlift or squat without a mirror.
Placement is never right for me.
Things like hip placement etc.
I can't 'feel' when my hip starts to stray to the left or right...
And it's the subtle shifts which pre-empt injury.
W/ other exercises.. I'm ok.. No need for a mirror.
But on these two lifts, No mirror = me not doing 'em.

thats what im saying. with the squat being such a technical lift, using a mirror would just make it more complicated. i would rather put all my effort into the lift and executing the weight. also when competing, there is no mirror in front of you. just a crowd full of people
