who can bench twice their weight?
Just curious how many are out there? It's always been a personal goal of mine. I got close when I was younger. I weighted 170 and put up 330. Going for it again!

I think its more impressive for someone to have a 400+ lb squat vs that of a 400lb bench. I have seen a 400lb bench on numerous occasions. The last time I actually seen someone squat big in a gym was almost ten years ago.

nope 180kg bench prob could only just budge it off the rack lol

Take a trip to Vegas MS. I'll take you to a gym where cats squat between 600-900lbs on a regular basis. Or you can always come workout with me at my house. I routinely hit 600-700lbs for sets of 3-5 reps.
As for the original post, I'm 5lbs off my lightweight. I walkaround between 290-300lbs. I've benched 575lbs...RAW. Tryin to get to 600 before my birthday in Sept.

Ray, it was a clean lift. Ass flat.
Mn Fighter. Damn!! Those are some insane lifts you are a beast!
Go4gold! all most super human! I assume you lift for strenght not size. I want to gain a little more mass. Then I am going to switch my routine for more strenght. I don't know where I am storing all this weight though. I was noticbly bigger and stronger when I was younger yet I weigh more now??
I figured there would be quite a few who can do it. It is no small feat though!!

never could, dont even flat bench anymore though. Almost every injury I ever had in the gym came from heavy flat bench press. Now incline is a different story, I've done 405/2 on incline, but not twice my weight. I'm 245 so shit, 490? DAMN, I have a long ways to go!!

The biggest things is as a general rule you can't body build and power lift at the same time. usually leads to either over trainning/ injury OR just not doing enough to get stronger.
thats why to guys that are massive in size its hard to believe a smaller guy is stronger.
then again sometimes you see somebody trying wrong and pretty darn strong but never getting bigger.

Closest I have been is back in the day when I weighed 155 and could do like 285.
Natural and probably my physical limit, that was after 5 days a week for 2 years straight.
Today at 200 I can only dream of hitting 400, but honestly I have no clue what I could do now.

When I was 19 and weighing in at 75kgs I could do 140 for 1 or 2 reps (near double my weight). Now at 80kgs I look way better, far leaner and more muscular but my strength is way down. Nowhere near 160kgs in bench. (damn all these lb measurments!)

I`m 230lbs and can bench 370lbs but squat 470lbs. I think I could go higher but at a certain point I just don`t know if I want to go heavier on squats.

first time I doubled up in bench I was 15 weighing in at 160 threw up 320(purposely wanted to hit double my weight since i had done 315 couple weeks prior) since then always been able to hit double my weight in most the big lifts, especially squats I LOVE that lift...

twice body weight bench is not a big deal. its usually only a big deal to younger lifters or bodybuilders who have gotten too big to match strength with their size...
but its all in what you go for, if you want to be big then it doesn't matter if you only bench 100lbs.. but if you want strength then it doesn't matter size, its all about weight pushed.

no wasn't bashing anybody.. just stating it because people seem to be down on themselves for not being able to do it.
i do power lifting not BB.. so i was just trying to add logic to a question that was on the edge of becoming a debate for no reason. if a person is a BBer then a high bench is a personal goal, has nothing to do with BB.

Id rather look like I could bench 500 but only do 300 than look like I could do 300 but really do 500. Why is it that everyone that approaches you in the gym always asks how much can you bench? Like this is the ultimate measuring stick for how bad a$$ you are? I like to be strong as much as the guy next to me, but Id rather do 225 controlled with a breath in, pause and quick press up and tear muscle fibers for growth than bounch 275 off my chest for a few reps. I got all the respect in the world for power lifters and anyone that has a goal in the gym no matter what it is, just confused as to why a value on a lift is so important to everyone? Some of the biggest dudes in the world do concentration curls with 35-40lb dumbells and I've seen guys that might weigh 120lbs soaking wet curl 50's while trying to throw their backs out. ha ha makes me laugh just thinking about them.

I am most proud of being 15 years old and benching 245 for four... and weighing 135. Couple of years ago, I did 405 ( four plates, Yay!) for 3, while weighing 215. So I got close to twice my weight. But I am an old man, and my shoulders and joints hurt for a month after that. I will never put my body in that position again. I'm a body builder, not a power lifter. I'll never hit 500. So I have for all practical purposes, hit my max weight. I have no desire to max out like that again. I like the way I look, and see no need to risk injury just for bragging rights.

strength is more to do with your tendons then anything. i had no problem benching twice my bodyweight when i was younger and not so bulky. best lift was 365x2, when i was 160lbs. now i dont even know what i would bench max, cause i never go above 315lbs. but at 190lbs bodyweight now, i know i cant bench 380lbs.

When I was young, skinny ass in high school, 145 I was able to do 300 lbs.
Now days, not even close. I happy doing less than 100 lbs over my bwt and I actually have no idea what my max is anymore. I go for the feeling, squeeze at the top, size and form, not the numbers.
Like many have said, I would much rather look like I can bench 400 lbs and only bench 300 lbs (250 in my case)Last edited by lovbyts; 03-21-2010 at 09:30 PM.
