Yes, I am largely into it. Takes You to another level fitness wise and mind wise. Makes you more mentality tough and prepares you for any situation in life. if your looking for pure strength and size, I wouldn't recommend it. But if your into becoming a more functional athlete, it might be a good fit. Give it a try and see how you like it. Don't rush into it.

Crossfit makes you very good at lifting light weights over and over again. I would not say it is the way to go if you want to be a better or more functional athlete. Additionally, crossfit probably isn't the best route if you want to gain size.
If you want to be a better or more explosive athlete, look into Olympic style weightlifting. If you're looking to gain lean mass, mixing oly lifts into a proper bodybuilding program is very manageable and fun. I do it because it breaks up the monotony.
I personally feel that crossfit has bastardized olympic weightlifting. In crossfit, poor form and bad coaching is very common. I would try to get in touch with a knowledgeable lifting coach. Depending on where you are in the U.S. I can suggest a few places if you pm me.
One positive that crossfit has brought about is the fact that it is exposing the oly lifts to more people than the sport of Olympic weightlifting has in 60 years. I like the fact that more people know what a snatch (hehe) and clean and jerk is.
My advice to people who want to do crossfit:
1. Find a knowledgeable oly weightlifting coach (not a crossfit coach)
2. Practice the lifts and perfect your form. With form comes big weight.
3. Go to a crossfit workout and humiliate everyone else.

And as for form, yes, after pushing your self to the limit, trying to get as many reps as possible in as alittle time , your form will degrade. What do you expect. It's apart of the sport of cross fit. Iv been able to do crossfit, maintain all of muscle mass/ strength and still be able to run 50k ultra marathons while the longest run I ever run leading up to race day is 10 miles.

I have thought about checking out CrossFit next time I am cutting. It looks like it would keep my strength up while increasing calorie burn and intensity.
I haven't looked into it enough to know if it is a good fit, but it looks interesting.

Here are my thoughts...
and my thoughts sometimes dont make sense, but alas... bear with me.
Crossfit... if done properly... can benefit a number of AVERAGE people in terms of increasing their physical fitness and cardio capabilities.
BUT... if you're already in shape/above average/fit/using gear/know your way around a gym... then its probably not for you.
Yes, you can incorporate some aspects of it into your normal fitness routine. Sure. Do massive giant sets, stick to main compound movements, and heavy lifts. All while trying to beat the clock and your previous best.
But dont call it crossfit. Please. Arnold was doing giant sets, and everything way before crossfit was ever a random firing of synapses in someones brain.
If you wanna lean out, get some endurance, and maybe some muscle mass... go for crossfit.
Dont expect to be looked at in the mall cuz you're jacked though. Oh no. Youll look average in a shirt.
But if you have no idea what correct form is, what amount of weight you should be lifting, and how to EAT properly... dont waste your time.
Youll just end up injured and skinny-fat like MOST of the crossfit people I come across.
Indeed, there are many crossfitters who are in great shape. I wont argue that. But there are also many Olympic athletes too... you dont see them everyday do you?
Crossfit Games are the best of the best. Does not, DOES NOT mean every person who does crossfit looks like them, lifts like them, or will ever come close to them.Last edited by Dukkit; 05-21-2012 at 01:29 PM.

Yeah DLB kills it. Her and her husband live near me actually. I got some of their Flag nor Fail clothes as well. He is funny as fukk on facebook. lol
She's been using crossfit exercises and ideas but makes them work for her bodybuilding goals.
Which is a great idea as I stated above.

There are a million ways to define " in shape"
There are a million ways to get "in shape"
The key is to be efficient and achieve your goals.
Crossfit is an inefficient means to achieve any fitness goal. It taxes you anaerobically and aerobically while creating a huge degree of protein degradation. These 3 things can not be improved significantly at the same time. Its a battle of extreme adaptations and you are pushing your body to the max only to see small gains in each area.

yeah chemical enhan***ent will improve gains.
However if you are usuing chemicals there are even more efficient ways to exercise to maximize your hypertrophy , anaerobic capacity and aerobic capacity through periodization instead of the crossfit model which is one of intense volume but moderate loads.

I've done crossfit for a long time and my brother actually owns a "box". Onviously you would think I am biased considering my brother owns one but here's what I think.
I agree with the post above it has it's place like everything else. If you are an athlete or are looking for athlete type explosiveness, speed, agility, endurance and overall cardio type fitness it is for you. You will definitely experience strength gains but not so much size or mass. Most crossfit athletes from my experience are light in weight, stronger than they appear and they tend to have overall fit physiques. I wouldn't say it's the type of workout that will build muscle of give you the size and definition you would notice with a shirt on.
I think it is a fantastic workout for someone with those types of goals. Me personally, I'm not training to run a marathon, I don't plan on trying out for the NFL anytime soon and I'm not too concerned with what my max power snatch is. I would say the functionaly movements are great and the WOD's put together are well thought out. I will say bad form and using heavier weights than you should is often common in crossfit. It's common to see many "athletes" in a box doing the movements incorrectly.
What I don't agree with is how crossfit tries to frown on gym goers nicknaming them "Globo-gym losers". It's almost like a cult and all they do is talk about crossfit, they only hang out with crossfit pals and they swear that crossfit is the ONLY way to work out or ever gain any true results. I from experience completely disagree with that. I had better cardio and endurance when I was in crossfit but I wasn't seeing any of the gains I was hoping for in size or definition. Odly enough I did get stronger in my lifts but I think due to the limited time dedicated to each muscle group in your WOD I wasn't ever particularly targeting one muscle group.
All in all I'm not one to bash it I think it has tremendous benefits and has it's purpose. Me personally, I don't want to look average and respond with "hey I bet you can run 5 miles quicker than you and be lest tired" or "hey I look average but can overhead squat more than you!" Those are not my goals. I'm looking for overall fitness, nutrition, cardio and overall health while looking and feeling good.

I'm pretty familiar with crossfit. It is very challenging and as another user stated if your trying to increase overall functional fitness level crossfit if for you. However, if your trying to just get big ... Steer clear of crossfit. Crossfit can be used to help you "cut up" but far as bulking up... it wont happen!!!

I have done and seen everything in fitness. For me Crossfit is the best thing I have ever done for my body. My fitness level after 4 months of crossfit is better than when I was playing college sports or competing in powerlifting. My only problem with it and its not really a problem. If I am not comfortable with and exercise or a lift. I simple do something different. I only do 3-4 crossfit workouts a week, then the other day or two I train I do a traditional bodybuilder style workout on any body part that I feel I didnt get hit hard enough.
When I hear people trash crossfit it reminds me why I trashed it at first. It takes you way beyond your comfort level, and it sucks ass at first. Once you start seeing how strong and how much better both anaerobic and aerobic fitness is. I am never going back to the traditional bb style workouts solely again.“If you can't explain it to a second grader, you probably don't understand it yourself.” Albert Einstein
