200 dip challenge
I fellow gym buddy challenged me to beat his time of 8:33. I need to do 200 dips all the way down and lock out/back down as quickly as possible. I have no clue if I can even come close to this mark. I know I can do 200 but 8:33 seems incredibly fast.
My question is do you think I should pace myself and bust out 25 each time then rest. or just do how ever many I can each time until I need a rest.
thoughts?

Thoughts? F that! haha. But if anyone can do it, gearbox can! I'll be rooting for you!
To answer the question... If you can rest, then I would go 25/rest/25/rest etc...~ PLEASE DO NOT ASK FOR SOURCE CHECKS ~

do you have time for a practice run? i would suggest you try to go at a moderate, comfortable speed that you can maintain throughout without needing to rest. you can then compare the timing of this method with your timing of the sprint and rest method. see which is better for you.
personally, i seriously doubt i can hit even 100...lol...

When I read your title I thought DAMN that’s a lot of dips at once. The most I have ever done at once was 56. There’s no way I could do even 100 in a row. The fact that you can do some and rest adds entirely different dimension to challenge. I would go for as many as you can rest than repeat. That should allow you to crush his time.

I believe the most I have done in a row is 48. But it has been a year or so since I last tried. I do not think I can beat his time. that is fast imo. 200 is a lot, and I have a feeling the last 50 are going to be brutal. kinda like 100 pull up challenge. you gotta do 100 in under 10 mins. so swing, very strict!! It is harder then it sounds! those last 20 were extremely hard.

8:33 is a total of 513 seconds. This gives you an average of 2.565 seconds per rep. Under this circumstances I would probably suggest going the route you suggested of 10sets of 20. Trying to only give yourself a few seconds on each break, literally to stretch it out and reset your grip. Good luck! I know I couldnt even get close to this figure.
Curiously... is there much of a weight/strength difference between you and your friend? I know I have skinny friends that can just seem to dip/pull-up without much effort or training because they are so light.

That is extreme and amazing if he can do 200 dips in that time scale, would love to see that if that's possible. I wouldn't come anywhere near that. best of luck and keep me informed on this challenge

I feel like I let you down guys. I attempted the 200 and it took me too long.
10:04 was my time. :/
Now I gotta see my gym buddy do it in person. Because I didn't even come close to beating him.

Thats still a pretty damn good time my friend. I wouldnt be able to get 100!
That give you a time of around 3seconds per rep. I would demand to see him do it in person! I bet by the end he was only doing half reps or something and hence managed them faster! Its a challenge though, I think with a little super GVT on your dips you could really get to 8:30 in no time.

I think it would take me at least 2 days to do 200 dips anymore and that would kill me. lol

My chest is actually pretty sure. I try since you're not sore at all. A little tight though. I gave my best thanks for the support guys!

THAT is a great piece of advice. I never though to do that. And actually i can see that working VERY well and being extremely advantageous for several reasons.
I will use my first set during the Challenge to "warm up." And if you guys are anything like me, i always feel twice as strong during my second set. I figure i will have 40-50 reps rattled off in the first two sets. Third set will be 20-25 and then 10-15 the remainder of the Challenge. Of course this is simply my armchair theory at this point.
But i believe this way, you reserve your gas for about 4 sets at least. My .02

Talked to my buddy that did 8:33. It was actually his second time trying. He got 9:54 the first time.
Said second time he paced himself and the last 50 are all will...

Mickey and Times what would we have to do in order to make Gearbox’s dip challenge an official challenge? Several people have shown interest in it and everyone on this site likes a challenge or we wouldn’t be working out like we do.
