He is arching all the way off the bench and look at his range of motion. It's about half way.

The first thing i noticed about this guy was the limited range of motion. IMO, he's doing about 75% of the movement.Muscle Asylum Project Athlete

Instead, they push the bar up and slightly at an angle towards the head. This motion is called the J-lift.

He's on some kind of funky ass bench, maybe a decline or something. Look at as he gets off, no way to lay flat looks to me.

You're right, it's a decline bench.

he's on a decline bench.....not much of a feat...lets see that shit on incline now please.

If hes on decline thats not great. Thats more of form that powerlifters use. Arch your back off the bench...squeeze your shoulder blades together to get a more limited range of motion. Only thing that matters is getting the weight up. Since he looks more like a bodybuilder and is doin what looked like 8 reps or so, I just think he has crappy form.

tell the bastard camera man to do it NOT sideways

He doesnt need a bench. Just a stall to rest his shoulders/neck.

exactly!! as long as his as doesnt leavethe bench or he doesnt move his feet, the lift counts in a powerlfiting meet. arching is part of the sport, if your arch and drop you lats back nd take the widest comp, legal grip, you can reduce your ROM a few inches!!!i do it,and every powerlifter i know who can arch use it a long with leg drive to get rep. if it is competition legal, than it is ok in my book. the computer i am using wont let me see the clip, but like i said, if he doesnt lift his ass off the bench it is a good lift

I don't see much wrong with the form except for the limited range of motion...The way I was always taught to bench was with an arch, Now when you start to push your ass off the bench and start using ur back then u have a problem...But as long as the weight is controlled, butt stays down, I don't see an issue...

I never arch when i bench. I stick my chest up but I do not arch. I wonder if I was taught the wrong way to bench.

Well when I was taught it wasn't really taught it was more like, this is what most people do, this is the correct way kind of thing...And when it was demonstrated the idea was to "load" yourself on the bench by sitting at the end, lowering ur shoulder blades to the back of the bench, and then pulling yourself into position with the posts of the bench, keeping that position until your into position to lift...

I guess he is a bodybuilder cause he doesnt know one ****ing thing about powerlifting. His lifts are illegal.
A side note: prefectly alright to arch the back and its actually better that way.

when i bench especially heavy i have a small arch. nothing you see but my lowerback isnt on the bench. my whole upper back is.
-

He is doing a decline bench. The ROM seems shorter, because it is.
Unless you put your legs up, you have an arch when you are doing your max.
Film it, if you don't believe me

well its fine as long as you dont use ur back to push the weight, thats fine, I think the key is to hit the part ur trying to hit, as long as u do that who gives a ****...I just feel like I'm in a more powerful position with the arch in my back...
