My first bike was a Ducati 748. It's your right wrist that is dangerous, not the bike. The asshole sitting on the seat controls how fast it goes no matter what. Buying a smaller bike just because your a beginner is a waste of money. Buy what you eventually want to ride now and LEARN to ride it.
This doesn't apply to newbies on the track though. When racing, you gotta learn corner speed without horsepower.
I raced for 7 years and have expert licenses in several regional sanctioning bodies, and my AMA license for Superbike. All are expired now, but I use to race on a serious level. Lemme see if I can find some pics.

Damn dude, how cheap are you you think the gas savings between a small CC bike and a larger CC bike are going to make THAT big of a difference? You'll get probably less mileage out of the smaller bike because you have to burn more gas to get up to speed. LOL
By a Vespa super scooter or something. Those things are kick ass.
