Benzs all the way for me.. This car is a beast and find very few other excotic cars can keep up with this. I am a huge AMG fan, and take advantage of how these cars sadly deprieciate after just 1 or 2 years. 2005 cl65's are now being sold at auction for less than 40k, for a car that was 187 k just years ago, its a steal for a car nut like me. Mods to come!!!!

from personal experience, the differences aren't that big
if you've got 3 wheels slipping 100%, you aren't exactly going to rocket off the line anyway.
BTW, you fix bmw's...my buddy's 330xi lost reverse this week (automatic). Only 35k miles on it...What's up with that, apparently it's a common problem with them. Any idea how much to fix?Last edited by Kratos; 04-15-2009 at 09:05 AM.

I would think you would need bigger numbers to go into the low 10's even with slicks....But then again, I'm far from a car expert.

I have to agree, that's a 106hp engine stock...and by the way 32 mpg isn't any big deal when you're pushing hp and torque numbers that would only be impressive in a lawn tractor. My saab 9-3 gets about that with more than 2x that power from the factory.
you'd have to be pushing nearly 5 times 106 to get 441 to the wheels.
The transmission, crank, cylinder head, pistons, axel shafts...none of it can take that power anyway. A friend of mine had a pro built 500 hp engine in his wrx and it lasted all of 3k miles before it exploded and became a lawn orniment, that isn't any fun. Overstating hp numbers seems to be part of the commuter car bolt on culture. I never understood the hobby, seems so cost ineffetive for the car you end up with. But as long as you have fun with it I guess.

A lot. Most of the time when you lose reverse the transmission must be replaced. There are rare occasions when it's something inexpensive like the torque converter clutch pressure relief valve, but usually it's not that simple. Since we only replace transmissions at the dealer, it's going to be pricey. You're looking at about ~$2000 just in parts. If you take it to an independent trans shop that will open up the housing and replace the defective clutch packs, then it will be much cheaper.

LOL
you're thinking D series.
it was a B series 1.6L (aka, B16). approx 160hp stock.
honda motors love boost...
the new K series 2.0 and 2.4L motors LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE boost.
k20a2 and k20z1 swaps at around 12lbs are hitting 400whp on stock internals.
check k20a.org
some crazy k series shit
but.
crank, rods, pistons/rings, rod bolts, head studs, FULL head work for flow, valves, springs, retainers. 3" exhaust, no cat, GT35R garrett dual ball bearing turbo, 1200cc fuel injectors, neptune ECU, drive shop 500hp axels, LSD transmission, 6puck clutch, flywheel, walboro 255 pump, type-r cams...
definately not the 1.6L d series... dohc b seriesLast edited by Nicotine; 04-15-2009 at 08:59 PM.

One of my dream cars!

It seems to me that the bmw's had more then a few concerns with clutch pack failures. Especially after raised throttle while in nuetral or park. A lot of failures after emissions testing, as they raise rpm in "n" for testing. Excessive pressure bleed from the forward clutch system would allow it to apply enough pressure for failure. Forward clutches are applied in all gears including n, p and reverse.
There is also a problem with lower hydraulic pressure for partial restrictions or pump type failures. Reverse commonly uses up to three different clutch packs. If the pump cannot produce enough pressure to apply three different clutches at the same time it could also have a failure. These cars are notorious for driveline failures. (imo this is a problem with Getrag, not BMW) This is both good and bad for your friend. Bad: His transmission failed. Good: this is such a problem that a number of aftermarket builders have taken to building them, and at a much cheaper rate then dealers. A loss of one gear rarely requires replacement of the whole assembly. As long as it doesn't have a planetary failure and he finds a respectable shop, he should expect to spend between 1500-1800 for the repair.
Good Luck
