It's just business. If an employer cared more about employees than business he would probably go broke. yeah there are exceptions and I guarantee you he is in it for the $$$
Either make yourself invaluable so he cant afford to get rid of you or become your own boss. As I said before, I have been laid off 3x from the same employer over 25 years and a few others in-between.
Dont let it get you down, make the best out of it and look for the good. The good is always there if you look for it. If you look for the bad you will find it.
I got laid off 1st time 2 months after my daughter was born and my wife went back to doing coke. It was the best almost 2 years I got to spend with my daughter raising her. 2nd time was when she was 6. The 3rd time was when she was 11. She got all excited because she knew we would have a good/fun summer playing again. Almost a 4th time when she was 14 and she was happy again. lol I'm glad I didnt but if I had it would have worked out.

Since you have a non union job there really isn't anything you can do. You are at the mercy of "da man." Secondly, that resume is WAY to long. I have had LOTS of jobs and i still have my resume down to one page. I just leave some work history off of there. Jobs where i only spent 6 months or so working get the cut. Remember showing too many jobs will make you look like you aren't committed.

Calgary,
Good to see you are taking it well. Love the attitude on using the worktime to find another position.
Thankfully in a position like IT with you being recently employed you are in a great place to find another position unless you have been pidgeon holed skillwise by your current employer. Seems in IT the previous flood of new talent is not the threat it was 5 yrs ago as many employers who were eager to hire kids straight out of college to save a buck have learned that book smart is not always a good substitute for real world experience. The fact that you held a position for 5 years speaks volumes on reliablity and charachter whereas a kid out of school is an unknown.
Best wishes on the job search and new position.

I know what you are saying but I have been with this job for 5 years and I am not your typical developer I have dont database stuff, SQL Server managment, reporting that needs to show. I have this job for 5 years and last job I had for 4. and rest I just have the company name and what position I have held and how long I have held it. When you put Analyst in the job description Its a whole new ball game.

Good luck man, must have been raw to hear that.
At least 3 months notice is pretty decent, and hey, if things get so desperate, look at how AnabolicBoy changed his career prospects..

Another Update: Buddy of mine who use to work with me is an IT manager in the home building industry I also sent him resume and he wants to meet for lunch next week. Things are getting intresting and my morals are getting higher.
I heared my current IT manager talking to our network guy "if we get rid of so and so then we can keep him(me) still here hoping that he (me) didnt get another job till then" in my head i went yeah you will have to give me 20 k pay raise and extra week holiday if you want me to stay which you wont so I will be outta here soon. plus now i dont want to stay after this shit
