Where you work is it a union job or non union? If it is non union I do not think there is anything you can do unless you were wrongfully fired

Are they also letting other employees go? How large is the company.

I have been let go or laid off several times. It's all just part of life. Used the opportunity to either go somewhere and have some fun right after or in the meantime just look for another job. Personally I never let it bother me I have always taken advantage of the time off to do something I enjoy.

BTW Every time I have had to start over it was always a move up so don't let it get you down.

bro start looking for jobs immediately I mean immediately. Get a suit, go to office depot or whatever and get that expensive paper for resume, get your resume in tip top shape and make sure it is clear simple concise and to the point...

check monster.com, indeed.com, or just go to the yellow pages and walk around buildings in your city to organizations you could fit in at...

all of this can be done in about one day honestly... 3 months is long enough to find a new job..

Sucks! From what I've heard there are lots of jobs in Calgary. You in the oil & gas industry? And remember, the play-offs are on.

I work in non union Job . They are having budget cuts in IT so there are 1 more guy that let go. Good that told me so I start looking. I already finished the resume and start applying . Old HR Director works in a different company that has one that I can apply for so left him a message. There is another company that I did project for a while ago is looking so I send email to their director with my resume see what happenes. My agenda is to find jobs on here for 8 hours instead of working.

Yep; that does suck for sure. The big thing I would suggest is to get a good resume. If you don't have an updated one, I really like Resume Maker Pro... and it seems I have an extra copy floating around.

This could actually be the best thing that happened to you; You have an opportunity to open new doors and hopefully realize your full potential.

Send you resume out to as many places as possible and pick the best, don't settle for the first. Use this as an oppurtunity to move forward. Good luck

6 pages? That is way too long unless you are counting the cover letter, letters of recommendation and certificates ?

If you have been at the same company for 5 years you only need to put that job and maybe 1 other unless the others are very relevant. You want to keep it short and to the point as much as possible but obviously not too short.

If you don't find something right away don't spend every waking hour winds and trying to find something. Take the time to also enjoy the time you have off because you might not have any for quite a while again.

You might want to see also if they will just pay you the 3 months severance pay and you can leave in 2 weeks instead of working the whole 3 months.

I tried that but what I got back for head hunters oh your resume is too short and emplyer cant tell what r u doing there. 1st page is skill matrix and last page is educational background. so it leaves it at 4.
I doubt it that they will do that for me. which is actually a good thing so I can come here look for work for 8 hours use their cell phone. Use their fax machine and use their internet to apply for jobs.
Plus i dont get depressed cause If I am staying home and not working I get depressed.

and sorry if it hurts, or is stressful, but companies don't owe employee anything, so good luck on the new adventure..

Networking with people is the only real way to change jobs, if you are counting on a resume you are going in against millions of others..

but heck i've worked for myself either as an owner, or contractor for the last 14 yrs..

you are lucky you were given a three month notice. if this is a reduction in force, in the USA, they are required to give advance notice if the layoff is over a certain amount of people. maybe the same is true in canada.

but cal, this has happened to me a number of times over my life. I don't see why you would think there is anything you can do legally? I don't think you are entitled to this job, are you? And this is not a wrongful termination, is it? Employers have a right to reduce their workforce.

best thing you can do is to pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and go out looking for another job.

    good luck!
