This is your mistake and maybe he has a legal right to the money if it was paid directly in his name. 2nd question: why would you allow a friend to get involved with your personal issues on a professional level. This again is a no no. The outcome is always bad and you will likely lose this friend.

I would consult with another attorney to make the glass more transparent, but I think you my friend can chalk this one up as a lesson learned.

I wouldnt fire him until after your next case....
I believe thats standard procedure in a personal injury case.

YEah it def sounds like your friend screwed you, but the post a couple ago is a good point. Medical billing is horrible, almost always outsourced, and commonly incorrect... Might wanna investigate that to, although as you said if youve asked for proof and he wont provide it, its prob him. Good luck man,

because when you file a complaint they want more than "he said he paid them" and then he didn't, and he owes me and my doctor fees.. after all we have appointed as supreme court judges and tax accountants known and convicted tax cheats, all they do when caught is pay the money.. why would this be any different..

what you are asking the board to do is punish the attorney for breech of ethics or criminal charges filed against him..

or are you attempting to collect $$$ to make you "whole" ..

what the point?? know how many politicians are attorneys?? alot, and lieing is not something that will cause them to have their ability to earn money taken away from them..

fraud on the other hand is a whole different thing..

a doc can operate, be found guilty of neglect and still be allowed to practice medicine.. same with an attorney..

ok looking online it seems the Texas bar association doesnt have REAL power to do anything. They will try to assist you to settle disagreement but can not force anything. Reading its a voluntary organization similar to the better business bureau.

someone told me i need to file a complain with the secretary of state's office. They handle lawyers. I could not find any info regarding that on their website.

    Anyone have any input?

Gix the kiting ideal seems most plausible, and/or drug habit, gambling problem etc...It really does not matter.(call hospital again and see if there have been any payments and if not then) First get all your paperwork together and make copies, then approach the situation like he is a complete stranger....."just business". Retain the services of another lawyer for the Texas case, sounds like a slam dunk(taking in consideration all the facts are as stated and they did not come from the "lawyer friend" just making you feel comfortable as he keeps sticking it to you) Then present your evidence of the original case to the new lawyer(his opinion of both cases relevant to your hiring his services) If the original lawyer is skirting and "kiting" you... well the sqeaky wheel gets the oil, in no way shape or form do you threaten or try to intimidate this guy. This guy may just be a bad apple, a scumbag in friends clothing. Cover your ass with the first case first. Take into consideration that perusing the original case, even though you may be in the right and can prove it, may not be worth it in the long run, this guy could drawl it out for yrs and the headache may not be worth it?

Good advice above but one added note, when you confront him have someone go with you as a witness. You dont want it to be your word against his.

    Tough break.

You can settle hospital bills for pennies on the dollar. Most lawyers def know that. Pull your credit and if it states settle for less than owed then you know what he did

Also if you have anything else to settle its not really hard to do it yourself. Just get on the phone with these people. The later it is the easier it is to settle. If you need any other adivce shot me a pm. I work in real estate and I know how to get around all of this stuff
