Alot of people dont look at things from an objective point of view and see how others see us. We have similiar issues as the rest of the world. We and our media IMO spin them different,

We see car bombs all over the middle east. They are terrorist and horrible i agree. They see us. We have mass shootings. Look at the movie theater shooting, how many college campus shootings and so on.

Our ambassador was killed in a attack. no way to justify it. Civilians from there did try and help and stop it. Gabby Giffords was shot in the head and others killed at a rally at a grocery store parking lot. Civilians there stopped the killer thankfully. Whats different?

We see protest with we hate America signs and burning flags over there. . They see protest here. Saying Obama is a Muslim. Obama as Hitler. The 99% rallies with all kinds of signs. some of them turned violent. Stores were burned, cops tear gassing people. Hell there was protest at U Penn over Joe Pa and he was protecting a child molester. Cars were set on fire during that. How did that look to people around the world. People rioted because a child molester was let go.

We say we want democracy and civil rights for everyone. We limit gay rights to marriage. Some of the tings said about the gay issue by people in office are horrible. There are protest outside funerals saying god hates fags. We are passing all kids of laws on "voter id" Our media has that as a way to disenfranchise poor and elderly voters. Also changing early voting and how to register to vote. Re drawing districts. Do you not think that looks corrupt to outsiders? Like people are trying to manipulate the laws so a certain member wins elections. Yet we say how we want to spread democracy across the world. And will complain that elections other places were corrupt or rigged. It looks like we do the exact same thing. We look like giant hypocrites.

    What others thoughts?
I really came into this conversation late, so I apologize if this has already been went over.

First, you have to understand the nature of government. It's first and primary role is to protect itself. Then it's secondary role is to protect it's citizenry. Once you understand this, you will also understand that a politician will see himself as more valuable than anyone else. In order to protect your role in the government from being overthrown in a coup, you need a strong military. The tricky part is to justify the size of the military to the people paying for it (taxpayers). But you cannnot admit to the taxpayers you want the military so you can protect yourself from them, the people paying for it. So instead, we need another reason. We create a boogey man, or an enemy. We have a huge military now, as we did back in the cold war days. Our numbers may be lower, but our budget is relatively just as high. How do we explain this? Wasn't the budget supposed to shrink post cold war? We even affectionately had a name for it, called the post "Cold War Dividend". So what happened to our dividends? Well my friends, government and it's spending doesn't shrink. So to justify a lack of cold war dividends, we created a new boogey man, and his name is "Extremist Muslim Terrorist". And in order to make him very real, then everytime something even remotely bad occurs that is even remotely attributable to "EMT", then we play it up huge in the media. We do this to create fear and panic. We fear EMT, and will pay anything to be "SAFE". And it's a good thing that Muslims wear turbins, because it makes tthem look different, and we all know how easy it is to vilify someone that looks different.

Ive sucked in enough CS to tell you its effect on ppl with no doubts.

Hell we used to break the capsules apart and dump the powder in guys beds for when they got out of the shower.

Mace and pepper spray/OC is nothing more than a deterent. Not from movies my friend. If I had any doubts about the usefullnes of this junk I would not make such comments.

The are not 5 sec prongs. They are capable of giving a shock for 20 seconds with each pull of the trigger unless the safety is maunualy turned on by the user.

They hurt but they don't. At least when it's over and you gather yourself you feel pretty good.

I reccommend the civialian version to a lot of ppl in my training classes. It;s just unfortunate that they cost between $600-$800

Put a comma after 5 sec in my paragraph. I know their not 5 sec prongs, hell I have one. I rode it for 5 sec, prongs in, they shot me the whole 9 yards, better . Some training classes tape them to the people and some shoot them in.

And yeah, I don't know how many times I've seen people in front of me buying their groceries on EBT then whipping out the cash so they could buy their case of beer or their hard liquor. CS causes an involuntary rection in your body that causes the eyes to want to close and for your mucas membranes and tear ducts to flow heavily, also involuntary coughing can occur in higher doses.

Your telling me that if you truely intended to harm some one thats all it would take to deter you. Fighing through CS and OC pepper spray is basic training shit for most modern military. The effects of this really are limited to discomfort on a motivated assailant. Those that give up to to contact with these forms of non lethal force are generally compliant to begin with.

It all comes down to motivation! It works well in riot situations but again most of those ppl are not strong willed and motivated to begin with. I have seen ppl pepper sprayed and cs gased and it just REALLY pisses them off!

They get their VA money, if they can't get their shit together, fvck them. Being a soldier at one point in their life doesn't give them extra points in my book. They had a dangerous job and was compensated for it to the amount that their contracts promised them they would get paid. Anything they were "owed" by us the public was paid for to them in their paycheques, allowances and other benefits. If it wasn't enough, they shouldn't have agreed to the job. And before you call me unpatriotic or something, I did enlist in the army at one point in my life.

I had the least military of MOSes you can get in the army. 46Q. It didn't fare well for me either. On leave, I got in to a bad car wreck where I broke my back and lost a kidney and ended up getting a chapter 5-17.

    Recovery went well. And thanks.

You know what though? Thanks to all the time I spend in the gym doing back exercises, I'm mostly pain-free now and I don't use any meds for it at all.

That sound like most everyplace else I have visited. We are screwed up but to say the most??? I have to disagree. We may well be on our way down but hopefully we will pull ourselves up before hitting bottom like many other counties have.

I wish all Americns could live outside the USA for atleast 1 year of their life to see the USA from the outside looking in vs. the inside looking out. Living out of the USA has really changed my perception in how I view my country.
