Greatest generation!
So yesterday morn. I was in Alabama for work. I found a little diner to have breakfast in before I picked up what I had gone for and headed to the airport!
I was enjoying a Western Omlette at a small table in the back while texting my wife and joking about how at least one person at each table was dressed in camo and at least one person had teeth (kidding none had teeth)
As I was finishing up an older cpl walked through the front door and headed towards a booth. I noticed the WW11 Vet hat on the gentlemans head. he was full of life and flirted with all of the waitresses who obviously knew him well. After he and his wife greeted everbody they sat down (on the same side of the booth as each other) and recieved their coffee and placed their breakfast order! I finished my drink and headed for the counter to pay my bill. I was so impressed with this old Vet for sooo many reasons and began to think about how few of them are still left.
I asked the gal at the register if I could please take care of the vet and his wifes bill. She rang it up and I paid for them both asking her to please thank him for his service for me! I walked out the door with a huge smile on my face and yet a slight sadness considering the difference between things then and things now. God bless those guys and gals and the best generation that ever lived! If you ever have an opportunity to speak to one of these guys, please do. You will never forget it!

That is awesome lunk. That's people at its best. I recently move in with my grandfather, to take care and watch after him since he wanted his last few years here in his house where he lived for 35+ years. Was a vet but no action. But he told me stories, he taught pilots for cargo flying supplies to troops. And also learn to sheet metal trade while working on the atomic bomb.
Truly a inspiration generation to us all. Feel kinda sad to see wht it's like now.

LOL.. NO.. that sounds male chauvinistic. however God did create us with specific roles. one of the reasons IMO we have so many family problems today stem from the fact that these roles have been confused and run together.
men are the head of the house, provide, and protect primarily
women are the help meet of the husband, take care of the house, and raise the children primarily
there is a lot more to it than that but thats the short of it. of course u get all these people who usually dont believe in God or are not christian or claim to be christian but do not read the bible and/or know what it says about roles of each parent/spouse and they get their feathers all in a ruffle because these truths written out by God do not match their opinions.. so they twist it into something its not..
but thats a topic for another time! just wanted to clear up where my original statement was coming from which was based on ur observation of how much better things were "then" as opposed to "now".. this is a very large reason why IMO..

That was a very kind gesture.....That is such a by gone era that deserves admiration, we literally have the freedoms we have because of all those men and women who lived during that time. And we should also remember the 500,000 17-30 year old men and women who died and had their lives cut short during the war, making the ultimate sacrafice for us at home. It is excellent that we appreciate those who served and are around today, but I always like to take a moment, when discussing WWII, to remember all of those who didnt make it, but gave so much...

I have had several opportunities to sit and talk with a few of these guys over the years, including a few who saw plenty of battle and bloodshed. Never in my life have I enjoyed a converstation with someone as I have with those guys! It's an attitude that can't be matched! I am a better person for having the chance to have those conversations!
If anyone has a chance I suggest taking the ttime...most of them are happy to talk over a cup of coffee and share a tale or 2! Time is running short...take advantage if you can!

I'd call it the biggest problem today. Very few place real value on what's real anymore. We've turned into a del-serving selfish society driven by nothing more than entitlement on the basis of existence.
Lunk, there's no place on earth like the true south. Most of the country has turned into a massive pile of whining weasels and it's happened in the south but there's still a lot of good people there. TN, AL, KY, and a couple others, that's home....especially TN and man I miss it!

to go back then? Sorry the leave it to beaver family doesn't impress me. We have better technology, science, health care now. I see nothing better about the 50-60's. Maybe i guess it looks more appealing if your a white male. Im sure most women, minorities or immigrants wouldnt think its a better time
