The Unofficial Guide to Eating ONCE a Day.. Like a Boss!
I think from looking at the available research on the topic of meal frequency, the rational conclusion would be that meal frequency, or how often you eat or how you choose to spread your calorie intake throughout the day is ultimately a matter of practicality and personal preference.
Some people may find it convenient, others impractical, but there's no good reason to engage in the pointless ritual of eating by the clock (eating every 2, 3, 4 or however many hours.) BUT, there ARE good reasons to intake all your food in a smaller "eating window" and remain fasted for the remaining time. These benefits include:
- Reductions in brain insulin signaling which lead to prolonged lifespan and anti-aging mechanisms
- Improved cardiovascular risk markers, including lowered triglycerides and LDL-C numbers
- Inducing Growth Hormone secretion
- Maintaining muscle mass and preventing atrophy of adult skeletal muscle
- Improved muscle protein synthesis
... and the list goes on, but I think these are the most relevant benefits for bodybuilders in general.
My Results/ Expereince:
I've been experimenting with IF (intermittent fasting) for a long time now, but it's not until a few months that I starting eating one meal a day, and I have to say I instantly fell in love with the idea. I used to be that guy carrying my lunch bag with me everywhere and neurotically timing my meals every 3 hours or so... not anymore.
Now I just plan my meal 5 mins before I go to sleep knowing exactly how many calories I'm gonna be eating the next day. I wake up, prepare the food, enjoy my feast, and I don't have to worry about macros and what not for the rest of my day. I never eat out, I don't feel hungry and my diet (and therefore my body composition) is 100% under control. Nothing is left to chance.
And I've been making great gains eating once a day. My body is fully adapted by now. Here's a before/ after pic and from start to finsih I've been eating 1 meal a day. I'm still 15 days into my 1st cycle, but so far I'm happy with the results:

Would you follow a blind man into 6 lanes of traffic.....................then why would you expect anyone to follow your flawed BS...................
Further more, I say you're a troll, you saw the influx of "nay sayers" that rose to attention the last time you spewed this ignorant bullshit & now you're back for round two because you're a troll & you like to stir sh!t up.

I saw people are interested in the topic, even my thread about God turned into a meal frequency debate.
Now I'm posting scientific information to back up my claim, explaining my approach and sharing my experience/ results.
You have yet to do either of these. All you do is talk sh*t. You sir, are the troll.

I don't like calling BS too often. . . Buuuut, those pics are not 15 days. Each peck is like 40% bigger.

I will say...plan flawed or not. I enjoy food so....why limit that enjoyment to once a day if I can have it several times a day!

Your doing something wrong lol. Sex is like Chinese food...I'm full for a few hours but the cravings for more return, food is the same way! I dont want to make myself miserable once with food I can enjoy a few times throughout the day.
I'm not saying I buy the 6-8 meal idea but 3 or 4 is nice for me

I follow an Intermittent Fasting routine, and I couldn't do just one meal a day. I don't try and fit 6meals in my window, but I aim for lunch, snack, post-work out and dinner.
I can't see how 1meal benefits much more than IF. All you're doing is extending the fasting window and suffering for that extra un-needed time.

Yeah, thats what I was going to bring up. If the time frame between those 2 pictures was only 15 days I would've been blown away, regardless of the use of PEDs to accomplish it.
Still great progress for 6 months though. I love food too much to attempt this...but f*ck 6-8 meals a day. 3-5 spread through the day is just right.

So many people in this game make progress in spite of what they do and yet somehow convince themselves its because of what they do.

I do appreciate your situations, I'm just curious what that amount of gear does to people! I have this image of you chewing down scoops of protein powder in between deadlifts!

The Bear could benefit the MOST of out all people from this thread. He needs to get up at 3am, 6am just because he religiously has to eat every 3 hours...
Now if you take a minute to look over the research, you'll realize this is simply silly. And you don't have to eat once a day either, but both eating protocols work just fine and anything in between is just as good. The POINT is that you don't need to torture yourself by neurotically eating by the clock in the fear of "going catabolic"
I know, I used to be there, and damn is it liberating to get that idea out of your system.Last edited by Sick_beard; 01-28-2013 at 06:55 PM.

If I ate 1 meal a day, I would have 5-6 other periods during the day where I was extremely pissed off that there was no food in front of me

You actually accidently brought up a good point. Most all animals eat at most once a day and go the rest of the time on that one meal. Our ancient ancestors would've not survived if they had to eat 6 meals a day with protein shakes in between. Having a constant source of food is a new phenomenon, one which has created more health problems than benefits.
