Diamond Rings
Yea yea **** my life. However its time and I have lived what a bachelor life. So many conquests over the years but its time to hang it up.
So I need some info. One of my close friends parents own a jewelry store in manhattan and they always tell me they will take care of me and I know they will but I have a question. Is NYC probably the worst place to buy a diamond? Are there areas I can get more for my money?
I would not say I am cheap but I always try and stretch a dollar the most I can. I work from home and run my side business from home so I have the time to put in and make the right purchase.

I recently paid 8k for a ring, would have cost around 12k from tiffanys, and the only difference really being tiffanys engraved inside the band that no one sees be smart about it....but chicks do love tiffanys, but only because its "tiffanys" they couldn't pick the difference without the engraved name, you're paying about 50% more for the name...obviously you can trust their quality but so can you if you choose another reputable jeweller
You get alot more for your money if you skip the rip off brand name tiffanys, my mrs 1.1ct is far more impressive than a .6 for the same price at tiffanys, there is nothing saying tiffanys to everyone unless they tell people so there is much more impact in a larger diamond of equal qualityLast edited by auswest; 02-21-2013 at 03:45 AM.

I told my wife That I'd buy her any ring she wanted under 6k.
The only thing is... If marriage is truly. 50/50
Then I would like a wedding gift from her of equal value in return.
She said OK and picked out a ring for a little under 6k.
So I said OK now I would like a Turbo kit for my Trans Am which was about 4-5k.
After about 2 weeks she decided she didn't need a ring.
She said she didn't realize how much hard work had to be done to buy a foolish ring the symbolizes nothing in the end.
She realized we could spend the 10-11k we were going to spend on gifts for one another. On more important things.
I don't play the game that men HAVE to buy a ring. men HAVE buy a house for the woman.
I say if a woman truly love you then all the material things really don't matter.

Db1982, that's a keeper there. I gave my wife the option of a nice diamond or a ring of my mothers worth around 500, not even a diamond. She said my moms ring is the one she wanted and we took the other money and took a trip to Bintan island, Indonesia. Totally worth the 5 grand. I'm keeper her forever.

Any jewelry place has extremely high quality rings, I would have thought new York would have been a great place to buy.
Congrats dude, marriage is amazing.

Its not how much you put into the ring or the wedding, reception, or honeymoon that matters. Its how much you put into the MARRIAGE that will determine if the 2 of you are happy. Dont get me wrong I enjoy nice things but I dont like going into debt to pay for those things. We had a very small, yet beautiful, wedding. Didnt spend much on it at all because we didnt have much then. Even now that we do have a little I can still see the glimmer in her eyes when she looks at our wedding pics. I can tell she would not change a thing about that day. When you find one like that you keep her FOREVER!

I do pretty well for myself. It would be a cash purchase. I just dont think I should have to pay for the ring and the wedding. I am from NY weddings are not small and they are expensive. I personally would be fine with a destination wedding with close friends and family but her family are ridiculous with religion and we have to get married in a church. If they only knew their daughter is marrying an atheist
anyhow i guess no one really knows the best city to buy a ring. I read NY is not a good place to buy so I iwll keep searching.

I have a friend that's a diamond broker here in Chicago. He's the guy that buys right from the mining companies and resells to the jewelry stores. He says go to either FL or Cali; buy the ring there and have it shipped to NY so you don't have to pay sales tax. He says FL and Cali have the lowest prices for diamonds (don't know why).

Congrats RWY. I couldn't tell you the "best" city, but NY is going to be one of the most expensive due to the ridiculous cost of living.
Your money would go a lot further somewhere with a lower cost of living. Do you have friends/family that live outside of NY? Maybe visit them and spend a few days ring shopping. As long as they don't live in southern Cali or similar, you should get a lot more for your money.
