we simply have lowered our standards and have no regards for virtues, therefore no regards for consequences. it comes down to irresponsibility. guns haven't changed, people have, remember in the old days where kids took guns to school? no one got hurt or no one was threatened. ask yourselves what has changed! really sad times.

When my daughter was 9 I took her camping and acquainted her with guns. Showed her how much power they have, how to properly handle them, clean them, store them.

I can't say what makes some psycho kid take a gun to school or the mall and start blasting people but there had to be something off in their heads to begin with. Simple curiosity doesn't explain that.

I shot the umbilical cord off when my son was born. Just kidding, I don't own a son, but I do have a gun.

You can never be too careful. I think that you cannot generalize negligence on parents. Case by case needs to be addressed.

Video games, music, movies. I see what my kids are into but no way in hell do I let them play, listen, or watch that trash. They bring ideas and music and YouTube sh!t home from school. Imagine the kids that are playing grand theft auto 5 right now. Then listing to music that promotes violence and watching it. All while their parents sit in the next room.

Could be some sort of link there but in the end even the best raised kid will make his own choices. i use to play goldeneye when i was a kid and my dad let me watch scarface while the other kids at school watched milo and otis and i have never killed or raped anyone or stolen anything.

Is that how you justify purposefully targeting children and selling them harmful drugs? You just may have killed someone...

Not saying every kid is gonna do it but if you look at a lot of shooting and killings video games are directly linked. Just google it. I think it's more of a culture that's being developed. Human life is just not as valued as it used to be. IMO

Not just any dealer, one that admittedly targets children because "they are clueless and pay the bills". It's just business, he says.

Very true. Just wait til he's 13 watching the other kids at school act like dip sh!ts because their parents or parent or whoever the kid lives with doesn't take care of them. I feel bad for the kids who grow up thinking the type of stuff they see on tv and you tube is what they aspire to be.

Queensland is the only state in Australia to treat
seventeen year olds as adults in court.

This is inconsistent with the United Nations Declaration
on the Rights of the Child.

“Subjecting seventeen year olds to adult justice lies outside the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child which Australia had ratified in 1990; in this respect, Queensland breaches the Convention.”
The Juvenile Justice Act (Qld) 1992 (the JJA) was assented to on 25 August 1992 with a vision to subsequently extend the Act to cover seventeen year olds. Section 6(1) of the JJA was drafted to make this extension as simple a process as possible – using regulation, rather than legislative amendment.

The media always reports the extremely rare instances of these things happening. Guess what, we live in a country with over 310 million people and over 300 million guns. 99.99% of gun owners are responsible people who have never misused a firearm. In fact, gun are used 2.5 MILLION times defensively EACH YEAR in the U.S but the media almost never talks about that. Also kids use guns in self defense as well.

It depends on the child really. I knew I was responsible enough as a child to handle firearms. I know kids today that I've shot with at the range and they're better shots than most.

Rare cases due to population, of course. But we're putting statistics/numbers on serious tragedies here. In other words, that dead person is not just another number to his/her family.

Muscular dystrophy deaths are rare. But I lost a sister to it. We can't disregard an issue merely on statistics. (Not that you're saying that. I am)
