It's on you for life so be picky and don't get a tattoo on an impulse.

Right there with you brother. I could write a book about all the terrible (professionally) tattoo artists out there. And I mean terrible as in personality and a business approach. All of them were reputable artists who had magazine publications and won many awards. I seriously can't wait until the day I am completely done with all my artwork. I'm gonna throw a party.
Who did you say did your sleeve again? It reminds me a lot of Guy Aitchison's biomech work.

Funny I hit up Guy Aitchison about 8 years back and he was not accepting any new appointments as he was booked 5 years out, so he recommended Mike and Carson, with Carson's style being nearly identical. Mike Cole is more into the geometrical bio vs the organic bio.
Once I finish my leg with Carson I think I am going to get my right leg done by Roman Abrego.

I've heard of Carson Hill. If I'm not mistaken, this is his back which was done by Guy Aithcison. Probably my favorite piece ever. I'd wear it with pride.
Not sure if you've ever heard of a guy named Monte Agee, but he did my right arm. He's booked out two years in advance now. 5 years is crazy, but totally understandable with Guy. Just amazing work. Here is some of Monte's work.
His brother also tattoos. Talented family.

From experience, I feel a tattoo essentially needs two passes. Maybe not the whole piece, but after the initial tattoo heals, a second pass of hitting various spots throughout the tattoo. Kind of like painting, how one pass will sometimes work, but painting a second time makes it pop that much more.
I've had my sleeve for about 10 years now and in the summer, I'm in the sun and at the beach. I try to sunscreen, but sometimes I forget. My tattoo still looks like it did after it originally healed.
Most pics you see of tattoos are right after (or shortly after) they are completed. This is when the colors are most vibrant as the tattoo hasn't fully healed and started to shed the top layers of skin.
Vibrancy and color also depends on the clients pigmentation. Some people accept bright, high contrast colors better than others. Personally I do better with grey washed tattoos.

Cool, I was told that after 10 years tattoo becomes quite colorless.

Oh yeah, I've heard of Nikko. You are one lucky dude to be close to him, although I am sure he's booked up pretty long as well. His color portrait work is some of the best I've seen. I had a slight chance to get a piece done by Nikko. He was doing a guest spot at a local tattoo studio and had one appointment left. I was about ready to book it and I was called out of town for work right before.
Your sleeve has held up great and looks really good.

I'm working with a brilliant artist and he's a wizard on photo shop so he's working on the sleeve so it doesn't distract from the size of my arm

I am double sleeved, and I will say this, it makes me look better in the arm department in my opinion. I don't go color though, I think color hides the definition more than the traditional shading. I think shading is key when trying to maintain a physique look on those guns.
