Damn that's awful. I was hoping this was unconfirmed, but it looks legit especially with Jerry Ward posting it. Very sad. I doubt we'll ever get true details on what happened to him. RIP Rich.

Drugs are bad. He seemed to have a 'death' wish with all the cocktail of drugs he was taking and has taken. The body has limits.

I was never a fan but had a lot of respect for him...he was a freak and looked amazing but when you burn the candle at both ends you eventually get burned RIP Rich...I'm sure this is how he would have wanted it so the world wouldn't see him wither to nothing and I'm sure he would have suffered brain damage and would have never been the same...sad day...

Shit, I kinda hoped he would pull through.
But when I think about the last person I knew (a good friend of mine) that was put in a coma, he died too.
So this was to be expected I guess, but sad news.
Luckily he didn't have to live a life with severe brain damage at least.
    RIP.

They wouldn't use opiates to induce a coma. I think they were asking if opiates played a roll in the initial incident, opiate overdose leading to the fall that caused the head injury. Some news reports said there was white powder at the scene.

Most cases like this involves Rec. drugs.
    I read the autopsy report on a couple of bodybuilders;
    Found some strange occurrences;

In those that had low BF (or normal BF) there wasn't any overt atherosclerosis, but there was cardiac hypertrophy.
In one who had a good amount of BF there was clear signs of a atherosclerosis and cardiac hypertrophy with signs of a previous cardiac event (mild heart attack).
Of these bodybuilders (it was just 3 total, so a small sample)
    the cause of death was;
    -gunshot to the head (suicide)
    -opiate OD (unclear if intentional)
    -suicide (forgot how)

In all cases I suspect they were starting to feel like shit,
and knew they had burned the candle down so to say.
So depression and in one case clear suicide, the other two self medicated to death, intentionally or not.

I would guess Piana follows this trend.
Whether he felt good or not idk, but unintentional OD would be my guess.

Whatever the reason may he Rest In Peace.
(And I hope nobody scorns him for doing and OD if that turns out to be the case, that's kinda like saying that if you fall on your ass and break a leg when drunk, you deserve it. At least that's my thinking, as I know good, honest, hard working people that have died of ODs.)

How about those that are given high strength opiates for serious injuries (car crashes, falling off ladders, etc) who become clinically addicted and then left out to dry when treatment plan is over?

    Ever been there?

I didn't mean to open a can of worms about discussing rec drugs here,
Just wanted to say that whatever reason he died, be it from drugs,
drinking and falling on his ass, or crossing the road without looking,
it's all the same to me.
I regret bringing it up, let's just leave it at that.

    1. Never reported who induced the comma. I think it was a nice way to avoid reporting how he came into comma.

    2. I didn't respond that opiates were involved.

    3. Opiate overdose can result in a comma. In regards to the falling down and hitting his head theory. It was reported he was receiving a haircut from his gf. If we want to believe this, he fell from a chair since his gf is much shorter then him.

Toxicology reports will take a few weeks....what will they find in his system remains to be known.

    http://opium.com/overdose/opium-overdose-symptoms/

Opium overdose occurs when a user smokes, snorts or eats too much opium. This type of overdose can also occur when an opium derivative such as heroin or morphine is injected intravenously. The dangers of opium overdose include:
    heart attack
    coma
    reduced circulation
    brain damage
    labored breathing
    death

Cardiac hypertrohpy when caused by adaptation to exercise is rarely pathological in nature. That is something that common in fit individuals, but the lay person sees that and automatically jumps to it being pathological and the result of steroid abuse .

Almost all cases of athletes that died from a sudden cardiac event had undetected congenital enlargement of the heart, unrelated to their athletic history.

My heart is bigger than average, but the size of f.ex wall to left ventricle is the same now as it was 10 years ago. (I know cause I entered a scientific study of athletes, AAS and cardiac tissue effects about then. Couple of weeks ago I did a new ultrasound, EKG, excersize EKG with BP measuments, 24h EKG for another study of the same subject.)
Anyway, when talking to different heart specialists, the thinking is that thickened walls MAY interfere with cardiac electroconductivety.
    (Thus predisposing for heart arrhythmias)
But they were not at all certain, and the heart is also able to shrink in size and repair itself to unknown degrees.

In essence, so far it's very difficult to say what effects AAS has on the heart and if it has any negative effects, whether that is permanent.

In the autopsy reports I mentioned one was mentioned as having a large heart (with no atherosclerosis and no mention of previous cardiac events)
died by OD. (No direct link to AAS use, other than that he had used a lot of it)

The other guy was fatter, don't know how fat, but enough to mention it.
He had also a large heart but also a lot of atherosclerosis, with signs of a previous cardiac event.
Whether AAS played a role here is also uncertain,
overweight carrying all the risk factors he had really, so one can speculate if AAS mattered or not.

There's also another thing here, when they say AAS they really mean:
AAS and ANY other drug the guy was or had taken.
So HGH and insulin plus anything could also have played in.

The only real link I've found so far in dead bodybuilders is rec.drugs actually.

Anyways, that strayed a bit from the topic.

    RIP.

Huge issue here on Long Island. Even Trump said it was a crisis. These young kids I work with come in and tell me stories of their brothers/friends OD all the time, the kid Kevin I work with Mom has brought his brother back twice with the shot, he's only one more time. She had to do it last mothers day. Crazy.
