1.5 grams per pound is plenty. you can even go lower then that if you need to make more room for carbs or for insulin usage. the idea that you hear about some of these supposed pros scarfing down 4 pounds of meat a day plus protein shakes and getting 600g of protein a day in the off season is probably exaggerated and if not, totally unnecessary especially while on cycle.
If your cutting , leaning out, or recomping, then I like to go a bit higher on the protein though for the thermic effects. if your coming off of a cycle, I also like to up the protein then as well . but if you in the middle of a cycle and a bulk then carbs should be your most important macro to focus on

aren't you relying on vegan sources of protein though ? I personally don't know how expensive pea protein and things like that are , but I just fed an entire family of 6 (and have some left over) for 7$ worth of chicken .
I also have a whole chicken I'm defrosting right now to put in the crock pot (it was $5) and it will feed me my protein meals for a day+ (I'm consuming 330g of protein per day)

Thank you so much for the thread. My wallet and my future gains thank you too.
I was thinking backwards (that being on cycle I could use more of what I ate so I needed to up it substantially and drop after PCT) So I was trying to reach as high as I could manage on protein... needless to say I will have much better results using your knowledge.

Hi GH,
First of all, thanks for the post; great read!
Would you say 40/40/20 for p/c/f is good while off cycle? Or would change those around?
I am 74.2kg (163.2lbs) this AM and been trying to follow a 40/40/20 for some time now (https://tdeecalculator.net/result.ph...1.55&bf=13&f=2), i was 73kg when I used that link like 3 weeks ago as I got tired of making my own calculations. I end up eating like 180-200g protein (1 shake of 50g and if the day is so busy I might even have 2 shakes, but mostly 1) 300g+ carbs (white rice, lentils, sweet potatoes & whole grain rolled oats) and the rest in fats. Is that alright?
What about on cycle? 30/50/20? Or less fats more protein?
Thank u in advance

I think protein is overrated relative to how people value carbs fats and micro nutrients .
I fully understand the thermogenic properties of protein and realize for some people it makes sense to have high protein based on body type, metabolism, individual factors, but the cookie cutter guidelines are very silly to me.
Took me a long time to realize that quality of a macro in general is way more important than quantity provided the total calorie equation is in check. Would've slapped my young self eating 250-300g of protein per day.
Even though the science is not proven completely yet : organic, free range, pasture, and grass fed food makes a difference.
Got to my 240ish lbs before my accident with 200g or so of protein per day. Now on track to be in even better condition and eating approx 150g of Protein.Last edited by Windex; 04-05-2019 at 02:12 PM.
