great pitching duel but awefull weather. we sat in left field and it was a steady sprinkle most of the game, we left at the start of the 9th because my gf was cold. i wished i would have stayed because it turned out to be a great finish(for reds fans anyway). i looked for ueker in the broadcast booth but couldn't spot him.

The signing of Eric Gagne has to placed on the shoulders of GM Doug Melvin.

Gagne's luck finally ran out. Despite some of earlier poor pitching, he never picked up a loss. Now he has one.

When are Braun and Fielder going wake up out of their comas?

What baffles me is why managers stick with guys who have a hard time making contact as their lead off hitter. I understand they like guys who can steal base but if they rarely get on, what's the point? I'd prefer a guy who is going to make contact anyway that he can. Bunt for a hit, outrun an infield throw, walk, etc. This striking out BS (Weeks) isn't getting it done.

Hardy batted in the second spot all of last year and now is finally back there. Yost's messing with the lineup (Hardy, Fielder-Braun) has caused nothing but problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

TMJ4 said that it was Gagne's fourth day of work in a row as a possible reason why Gagne blew the save.

The Brewers seem to be playing on the road better than at home. A reverse of last season. Brewers lost to the Cards last night at Miller Park.

Turnabow has his agent complain to Brewers management about what his role is. He gets his chance and blows it. The boos were well-deserved. The Brewers have given him plenty of opportunities.

Hart's error, in right field, was a little surprising. Usually, he is very solid out there.

Ben Sheets will miss his next start and Dave Bush will be his replacement.

Brewers are now two games behind the first place Cubs.

Early start for the Brewers and Cards today. Parra pitches a scoreless first inning.

Top of the third inning and it's 2-0 Cards.

Fortunately, the Brewers gave Parra some run support in the bottom of the third. 3-2 Brewers.

Parra settled back down and threw a scoreless fourth inning.

Crew picks up a run, in the bottom of the fourth, and leads the Cards 4-2.

Parra gives up another run in the top of the fifth and the Brewers are held scoreless. 4-3 Brewers.

Brewers just rolled up fourth runs in the sixth inning and are ahead 8-3. Hopefully, the Crew can hang on and split this two game series with the Cards.

Gywnn has been out with a strained hamstring since April 3. I know he was placed on the 15 day DL but I not sure exactly when.

The Crew gave up fourth runs in the seventh inning.

Our worst hitter (Gross...now a Tampa Bay Ray) has an average approximately the same as our leadoff man (Weeks). Lol.

Gagne blew another save opportunity with a one run lead in the ninth inning.

Gabe Gross has been traded to the Rays and Gywnn is coming back. Now we just need to get rid of Turnbow.

Kapler wins the game after driving Gross in. With Gross gone, Kapler and Gywnn need to step up and tough out their injuries.
-
04-23-2008, 08:25 AM #113
Weeks ****ed up a sure double play so Yost will use that as his reason to defend Gagne's failure.

Billy Hall was brutal at the plate yesterday. 0-6 and two strikeouts. His average is down to .185.

With the bullpen blowing leads, it's going to very difficult for the starting pitching to pick up wins this year.
-

Cubs are red hot right now. Five straight wins.
-

I'm just glad Gross is gone so it gives Kapler and Gywnn more playing time. It gives Yost one less "toy" to play with in the lineup. Now if they can just get rid of Turnbow. Unfortunately, Gagne isn't going anywhere because of his contract. A victory and Gross is gone...I'm happy.

From Brewers.com: "In return for Gross, a left-handed-hitting outfielder who spent two-plus seasons with the Brewers, the team received 6-foot-5 right-hander Josh Butler and will send him to Class A Brevard County. Butler, 23, was Tampa's second-round pick in the 2006 First-Year Player Draft."

A lot of callers on 1250AM said that they thought it was over after Gagne and Weeks blew the save in the ninth. It's hard to have a lot of faith in our bullpen. Most of the time, you're just waiting for disaster to strike.

Dave Bush will be pitching against the Phillies, tonight, at Miller Park. Some reason when I hear Dave Bush is pitching, I think lose. I hope that I am wrong.
