    How important is Rest?

I hear everyone say that rest is important, but how much is really necessary while bulking? BTW im 19, I dont know if that makes a difference or not. Is 7-8 hours a night ok? If I sleep 8-9 hours would that be to much and have a negative effect? Also would mid-day naps be beneficial? Just trying to learn! Thanks.

Rest is one of the most important parts of training bro. 7-9 hours shoudl be good. I used to take power naps also before a gym workout sometimes.

Remember, you dont grow when you lift - you grow when you eat & rest.

im not sure how it relates to growth, but i used to always take a power nap after work, from 6p-7:30p, mainly because i was playing late hockey games. i notice that when i do this every day, im extremely tired at that time, and then i dont want to go to bed till 11 or later (i wake up at 6). I figure it would be better to have that interrupted sleep, so you get more R.E.M. sleep.

Not sure what your point is, or what it is youre trying to say.

Fact: Sleep is manditory for growth.

he is reffering to the 4 stages in a sleep cycle. And i believe in the last few hours of your sleep is when your gh and stuff gets extrected the most, so maybe thats why a power nap wouldnt be so good for you?

Rest is essential for muscle repair and growth. Try to get at least eight quality hours of sleep each night and if possible a 20-30 min power nap at lunch doesn't hurt. You only feel bigger when you lift, you grow when you sleep.

So if workout, and sleep constantly between workouts and meals, i would be massive.

    Time to go into hibernation.

So people in comas look like they have been juiced up for 78 years!

    amazing

some people require more rest than others.

Constant deprovation can affect training - affects strength and i would say even motivation.

I base it on how long it takes for my body to recover from a workout. I usually sleep for 9-10hrs on workout days and 7-8hrs on off days (1on-1off workouts). Based on how my body feel on the off day, I might sleep for a couple more hours. I use the same schedule for bulking or cutting. I feel that I get the best result with this schedule, but people are different. You might want to experiment with a couple different schedule to see were you will get the best results.
