225 for reps
Today I never felt so powerful on the bemch press. I did 225lb for 24 reps with no spot beating my old record. I'm 5'8" 214lbs. I'm curious to know how many of you on here have tried 225lb for reps like this or 185lb or whatever. About once a month I do this as my last set on the flat bench. Any one else have some numbers they are proud of?

I can get 225 for 20 on flat and 18 on incline. Not great but ok for a guy with long arms.

165 lbs and doing 30 reps with 225? We talking bench or leg press? Sorry man, I find that very hard to believe unless he has no legs.

Just a little food for thought.
I was watching a Ripptoe video (Starting Strength) and learned that the wider the grip the easier the press becomes. It shortens the distance the bar needs to travel.
He said and i quote " People who like to brag about bench numbers tend to favor this grip."
I have used wide grip before and i see his point.

My training partner got 32 the other day. He benches about 400lbs max. He weighs about 238lbs, at 6'1". Strongest guy I know. Thats better that some of the NFL lineman.

at 145 i wouldnt doubt him. Some of the top pro boxers in the world around 150-160 can max at well of 300 lbs.

I usually do between 18-21 reps at 225 when I am in my light training phases, 3 sets to failure. Helps keep my shoulders from going to shit. When I am in my heavy training phase, I just warm up with 225 for 10 then go into my working sets.

225 was around 27 or 28 reps, I think, a few years ago. But I've done 315 for 12 recently. I'm 6'3" 260lbs and my arms are so long they drag the ground.

I second this....
I will have to give it a try next CHEST DAY though, because NOW im curious...
I did 135lbs for 60 like 3 weeks ago... I was going for 75... well originally it was 100 BUT when I sat down at the Bench I told my buddy.. yah I'll hit 75.. no way I can hit 100... at about 57 I was DEAD and managed 3 more...
I thought that was pretty FUN !!
I'd Hope I would be able to at least get 25... Like I said I am gonna try... I'll let ya know...
