I started lifting when I was 18. I had always been thin, but underwent an emergency appendectomy and emerged from the hospital 150 lbs. I found a hole-in-the-wall gym and a personal trainer (Casey Viader) and in 1 year I was up to 218 – natural. Now, I’m getting back into it after taking many years off. My goal is to see a well-defined six-pack (I know for some of you it’s easy, but I’ve never had one). I also want to add 10-15 lbs of lean muscle over the next year.
Great forum, I’ve learned more here in the last month than anywhere else. And Mike, you’re right, there is a definite sense of family here – thanks guys.

Damn, I feel small on this board!
NOTE: I have updated this post with newer stats....
20 yrs old
5'10"
218lbs
16% bf
About to start a cutting cycle in Jan to hopefully get that bf back down to around 10-12% or so (that's where it was 2 cycles ago).
I got into BB when I was about 14. Me and a close friend got into it together and used Arnold Schwarzenneger (sp?) as our inspiration. Pumping Iron is still one of my favorite movies.
I have never been as committed to anything as BB. It is the only thing I will get up every weekday morning at around 5:00 am for.Last edited by Gonna Be HUGE; 12-24-2001 at 06:49 PM.

I started lifting for high school sports, but around 17 I went to my first bbing comp and I was hooked. Did my first show at 18. Continued to compete until i was 23. All as a natty except for the last one. After that contest, I took nine straight years off. I'd say I did not go into a gym five times during that nine years. Then three years ago this December, I nearly lost my dad to heart disease. I have lost all four grandparents to heart disease, my father had 8 bypasses(two surgeries), my mother had one heart attack. They were able to save my dad, and I vowed not to put my future wife and kids through that. I lifted naturally for the next two years and put on 25 lbs. I started cycling again last November in hopes of competing again 1 year from this month. I have never felt better(even as an old man). lol The old joints ain't what they used to be. And the gear doesn't seem to have the same intense effects as it did as a youngster. Oh well, can't have it all.

me
Very interesting thread this - it's great to read about how and why other people got into bbing.
As for me (go see the members pictures section for what I looked like 2 months ago... )
27 yrs old
5 feet 10
240 pounds ish
bodyfat - loads now
best lifts ever (volume 1! ):
Squats - 550 for 14 (and set before was about 440 for 30 reps. Geez, what a workout that was, lol!)
Inc bench 320 for 4 (on the 5th my pec went TWONG!)
Deadlift 500+
Was hoping to compete in April (1st time). Now, god willing it'll be september.
I got into weights at a young age (12) because I was fat all throughout my childhood and bullied badly every day. My dad got me a dumbell kit to try and help me. It worked, LOL! I started decking every f****er who messed with me and by 16 I was the hardest kid in school. Them were the day, hehe!
Anyway at 17 I finally lost all my weight (5 stone in 6 months) and built my way up from there and sort of plateau'd at 240 ish for the last 5 years. That's why I'm on the gear now (well, was!).
Nothing beats a good leg session for making you feel like you've acheived something.

Got into BB for some of the same reasons "kingofpop" did. Major props for sharing bro!!! Freestyle wrestled jr high, HS, college and Army on and off for almost 22 years. Way to many knee surgeries, medically retired, divorce and a really painful break-up with the girlfriend after the divorce, got really FAT, really depressed(is this starting to sound like a soap opera???) One day woke up with a desire to work out and have been going strong for seven months straight and 84 lbs lost. The greatest moment was running into the ex girlfriend and her triple taking at me and telling me I looked great and my cock strong response saying "I know, and you haven't seen nothing yet"
AS someone said earlier in this post and I am paraphrasing:
"Body Building is a lifestyle"
WHo knows why we give every ounce of effort each day in the gym, pushing our bodies to the limit? Some say it's for the attention and that we secretly crave attention that we never got growing up or we weren't breastfed as babies. Hell, I love the attention and I want to be the guy who everyone stares at when I walk into the gym in the wife beater shirt with pecs straining to bust through and arms like tree trunks (ala 4 plates) Is it shallow and conciteful to want this? Hey, I have never ever felt more self confident and healthier in my life. The perks are great too!!! "Those who can, do. THose who can't, watch."

so far i've maintained my "natural" status. however, this board has opened my eyes to many things about AS. i have tried prohormones in the past, not gotten any real good response from them. i started my BB career about 10 years ago. being the "short" guy didn't help the status quo in high school, so me, like most took to lifting weights to make up. ok, yeah i did at one time use BB to bring up my insecurities, but not now....i'm over it...really! long story "short", started competing these last few years and have whooped some major ass...to any guys from texas whom i've beaten, sorry! i'm now in the experimental stage! i'm shooting for 200lbs, then i'll stop....yeah whatever!
peace out and if doing what you love is a sin, send my butt the hell-express!!!
