    Thumbs up “Night Watch”

The "Night Watch" maintains the delicate balance between the forces of light and darkness -- the result of a medieval truce between opposing sides. As night falls, the dark forces battle the super-human "Others" of the Night Watch, whose mission is to patrol and protect.

Conceptually, this was a very interesting film. Though it received little notoriety, it’s now on DVD. See what you think of the trailer:

I guess Prime is in the minority here.

I loved it as well Tai. But like you said, it was hurt only by the inferior budget. Had it been a major motion picture with a big pocketbook, this could have been a blockbuster. They also would have had to dubb it for mass appeal.

Very good movie, and it has two more coming out called "Day Watch" and "Twilight Watch" to complete the trilogy.

Night Watch was just the beginning, the next two books where much better than the first, which was a hard thing to do! Let's hope the movies do the same!

Yeah, I look forward to their arrivals with equal anticipation.
'Day Watch' is in production and slated for an '06 release, but I doubt it'll arrive this year.

Saw night watch today. It was a interesting movie. But it had alot of weaknesses, especialy fight scenes and budget. But Im gonna watch the sequal for sure. I read somewhere it was the biggest movie hit in russian history so maby part 2 gets more cash.

the movie only had a budget of 4.2 million. Damn they sure know how to skinflint there way into making good movies over there.,

I just read that part 3 has been bought by fox and will likely be shot in america My bet is the third part will suck.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Night_W...282004_film%29
The film attracted the attention of Fox Searchlight Pictures, which offered to finance the third part and bought the US distribution rights for the whole trilogy. As a consequence, the third part will be filmed in the United States, likely with other actors speaking English instead of Russian. [2]

Didn't read the series. My philosophy is that if it's really good it'll come to the silver screen.

johan - But it had alot of weaknesses, especialy fight scenes and budget.
Yeah, I tried to warn you.

johan - the movie only had a budget of 4.2 million. Damn they sure know how to skinflint there way into making good movies over there.
Wow, talk about loaves and fishes, they really did a lot with so little.

johan - I just read that part 3 has been bought by fox and will likely be shot in America.
That guarantees deep pockets. It was also shot in an 1.85:1 aspect ratio, so the quality will greatly increase. And we should get more accuracy (book to film), Wikipedia noted that many of the spell casting and magic scenes were short-circuited by the movie.

johan - (My bet is the third part will suck).
Generally speaking, foreign films that are shot and bankrolled by the US do a good job of maintaining administrative privilege/integrity. It should still be quite good.

I kept in mind that it was on a low budget and was actually quite impressed with what they were still able to pull off.
I'll definitely be seeing the rest of the trilogy.

Books are MUCH different. Honestly Johan you would like the books much more. They are much more fantasy driven, including mages, the use of crystals, magik, etc. They removed a lot of the fantasy element of the books to make it a bit more streamlined storywise for the big screen.

All in all good movie, excellent books.

I also added daywatch to my netflix queue. Yes, I am very happy w/ netflix. $15/mo and I get 3 movies at a time with 1 day turnaround time (1 day there and one day back) for all my movies... I have already seen over 100 movies using it and that woulda been like $500+ from BlockBuster. Not to mention they carry thousands more titles than any store could hope to carry. If I like the movies, I burn them to my 750GB HD and watch them again laer or just burn them to disc.. either way, I like my Netflix.

    Saw it yesterday.

Let begin by saying there's a reason it wasn't released in theaters!
It's worth seeing, only if you're REALLY into that genre of movies.

That said, it was okay but you really have to pay attention. And the supernatural action was as good as advertised, but sadly it was only sparsely woven into what becomes more of a relationship movie (guy/girl; father/son) than was alluded to.

Reminiscant of Jerry McGuire...Cruise, Gooding, Zellweger...looked like a good a football movie about an agent and his budding star...but as quickly as Optimus Prime it tranformed into a chick flick. "You had me at hello."
