When I was in grade 1 my teacher sent me home with a sticker . It read A FOR EFFORT. Needless to say I was proud. I now realize more then ever that everything we do is relative. Over the years my idea of EFFORT has transformed into this invincible driving force. I wonder what my teacher would say about some of my recent EFFORTS;
Effort is going to the gym with 4 stitches in your hand, only to have blood dripping onto your face during dumbbell press.
Effort is going back to the gym for your second cardio session, third time total for the day.
Effort is forcing down that second can of dry tuna in one sitting.
Effort is explaining to your girl why even though its your anniversary, dinner will have to wait because its also back day.
Effort is set #4, rep #20 ......during squats.
Effort is Tying one end of a rope to a dumbbell and the other to your wrist because your hand is broken in 3 places and you can't miss BI day.
Effort is waking up in the middle of the night and forcing down another shake.
Needless to say I don't get stickers anymore, and my idea of EFFORT has been modified, but I guarantee you I don't leave that gym until I'm proud of what I have done.

Like I always say....BETTER EVERYTIME.
Brings back great memories too...I remember you tying the f*ckin weights to your hand when it was broken in three places. You will NEVER give up and as long as I have known it and it has inspired me, now it will for all others on this board.

People with our stature or physique tend to get asked a lot of questions, and rightfully so. Deep down 'they' would love to look like us or even just to see through our eyes for a day. Don't get me wrong knowledge is key, so therefore questions are an awesome way to learn. Its just sometimes I shake my head at some of the questions and ideas people have the "balls" to ask. Here's a quick list of a couple personal favorites;
Q: Are you still on protein?
A: A glare filled with confusion and sorrow. I almost felt bad.
Q: Do you think I'm getting enough protein with a 6 pack of McNuggets?
A: If your eating McDonalds as a protein source you have much bigger issues.
Q: Do you think I need to tone?
A: Go Ask Carlos, ........whats toning again?
Q: I workout 2 hours a day, 7 days a week, why am I not growing?
A: I didn't know working out made you grow? I thought food did, my bad.
Q: Is there a way to gain a lot of muscle really quick, without having to do much?
A: You sound really dedicated, please don't ever talk to me again.
Q: How many reps should I do to get cut?
A: Keep going until you die.
Q: A lot of people tell me to take protein, but won't that make me gain weight?
A: Who started this damn rumor?
All I know is that I started my body building journey through a book. I read and I learned. If your not willing to put in the time, don't bother bombarding us with your questions.Last edited by Rude_7246; 08-29-2006 at 08:53 PM.

Sometimes we feel down. We feel as though it’s hard to stand up on our own two feet. Hard to keep going, moving forward at least. Things have seemed to become monotonous. The discord and struggle of everyday life, takes a harsh toll on my mind. My inner thoughts are sent into the depths of my being, the place you never wanted to know existed. Trapped in a prison of depression, with hurt as your floor and twisted memories for bars . The kind you can't break, no matter how hard you try.
You begin to realize no matter how physically strong you are it won't help you here. You need strength of mind and an unforgiving courage to unlock these gates.
Often desperation tends to supercede our sense of caution and calm. We lash out in an attempt to battle our adversary. Whether it be a person or our situation, our mind set recognizes it as the enemy and uses anything it can as a defense mechanism. In doing so often moving backward, by making unproductive steps. If we could only use our mind to curtail and harness these emotions, we could better understand our present circumstances. This understanding would then be used to part the seas of despair and open up a world of solutions and promise.
We must approach each goal with a calm head. Use your minds to overcome the stages you may see as barriers.
Stay on the right path, don't get to crazy. If your plan is to gain 5 pounds of muscle, then understand how to do it, and go after it. If your plan is to lose 5 pounds of fat then understand how do to it and go after it. Let the frustration and depression that this game brings float away in a gust of wind called a plan. It is a plan that will take you to the next level. Set your goals and then keep moving.
Whether it be in bodybuilding or not.

I Notice...
Sometimes I feel like I am the guy at the end of a row of dominos. You know the one that knocks down that first piece and causes a chain reaction. Almost as though I am the guy who makes things happen. To understand what I'm referring to you have to look a little harder.....to notice.....
When he's walking towards you with his girlfriend, he quickly claspers her hand a little tighter, I notice.
When your in the supermarket buying chicken and egg whites, they look into your basket, only quickly to discard that bag of chips they consequently have now choose not to buy, I notice.
When I pass them on the street and they think I don't hear them whisper "juice pig", I notice.
When their done on the machine they know you've been waiting for and they pull the pin out so you don't see what weight they had been using, I notice.
When my bro's and I go out to eat and the overweight ignorant waitress makes comments to her co-workers about what we order, I notice.
When I'm working out beside some random "manly man" and he sucks in his gut and sticks out his chest just a little, I notice.
You know what the truth is, I'm okay with it all. I don't do it for anyone else, I do it for me, but I still notice.
