I don't think any of you guys saw this last night. If God played the guitar he would take a righty guitar string it upside down and play with is eyes close (wait till the 2 minute mark). RIP to Mitch Mitchell, hendrix's drummer

I only gain size with my bodyparts by gaining strength. Finding that out with my calves too especially. Having to take the smith machine and load it up to start doing calve raises then load 5-900lbs on the leg press for calve presses. I know this is going to really really help them

I don't know man, everyone contributes they're own style and paints their own part of the picture. In my opinion guitar is FAR too subjective and artistic to define one clear "best". A lot of the guys who have the most physical talent make some of the least enjoyable music to my ears, so it's really hard to say.
Hendrix definitely changed rock music, so I thank him for that. He's the equivelent to Arnold in that respect, he was a hero at the time and no one could touch him. But today probably wouldn't place in a pro show.

I completely agree with everything you just said except the last part. I don't see any good guitarist or rock music that is coming out that holds a candle to the likes of jimi, bob dylan, the rolling stones, etc. Shit is all emo whiny stuff. At least thats all I hear. the 90's alternative rock with STP, Nirvana was great but I haven't heard ANYTHING new that is even worth a damn. I know there are a few "freaks" out there but they don't put out enough to even bother with

I'm a drummer... I probably couldn't carry a tune on a harmonica much less a guitar.

Yeah exactly, bout how can you judge? Out of the 4 you listed, Van Halen completely destroys the other 3 at raw guitar talent and speed, fluidity, dexterity etc. But that doesn't mean you prefer him to the others. For instance, Page wrote some of the most classic riffs of all time and really took it to the next level in songwriting....but listen to his live stuff and the man was SLOPPY as could be.
I have a much more modern taste in music and guitar playing, I throw infinite respect to the classics who paved the way though.

Well again, it's musical taste. Your ears dig the old blues-influenced jams. That's cool. don't get me wrong, the shit on the radio is PURE SHIT. But these days you just gotta dig deeper. I'm much more into the heavy side of music, the musicality, skill, and intensity is pretty much something I can't get listening to any other genre. That being said I listen to jazz, classical, anything but hip hop and country.
Talking about guitar players with skill and good bands to listen to are 2 very different stories. Steve Vai, for instance, is probably in the top 3 most talented guitar players to ever live. But you will never ever catch me sitting around listening to a Vai album.
