Oh ya dan. Nice pics. Your abs are ripped. You can't be holding that much fat in your legs or back. Your lower then 10% I think

Thanks but nah.. I'm over 15% right now and definitely over 10 in that pic. I have big abs genetically. I've always had them and I spend a ton of time doing core exercises. If I had to guess I'm probably at 13-15% in that pic. I took a whole 2 months off now (that's why I took the pic, last day in the gym). I take all of Dec-Jan off every year to just let my body rest. I have to travel for the holiday's and can't eat right so I just spend those 2 months eating like junk and binge drinking before I get back into the gym on Feb 1 and eat clean/train for the rest of the year.

I don't think I'm disciplined enough to get to 4-6%, I like milk & cheese burgers too much...........lol
I'm really comfortable at 9-11% & it's pretty easy to maintain.

Another question for you bear since you know more then myself.

I like to be around 170, 7/8%, and I can maintain that with 2 days a week in the gym doing MMA on my off day's. I have a different routine than most though. I do HIIT twice a week and that's it. Monday is entire upper body and Thursday is entire lower body. MMA training Wed & Sat. for cardio. I spend about 1.5 hours doing MMA each day and you'd be surprised the flexibility/endurance gains you get from doing MMA training (i.e. rolling around wrestling with dudes on a mat). I just now started doing Yoga at my girlfriends request on Tuesdays for an hour. That shit is hard (Yoga).

Honestly... the trick I've found is do A LOT of different ab work outs at once works best with no weight. I just do one set of everything to failure with no weight. Here is my ab routine:
Decline Crunches: 1 x 100
Hanging leg lifts: 1 x 50
Hanging leg kicks: 1 x 300 (this is where you are suspended just kicking like you are swimming only a couple inches)
Hanging side leg lifts: 1 x 30 each side (keep upper body straight lift legs at an angle)
Hanging V: 1 x 50 (Lift legs from straight out to a V and hold for 2 seconds controlled back down to normal position)
Wood Chop Decline: 1 x 50 (I use 20 lb dumbbell for this)
Wood Chop Incline: 1 x 50 (I use 20 lb dumbbell for this)
Decline twist crunch: 1 x 100
Leg Cross twist crunch: 1 x 100
Try that for a few months and see how you come out.

yeah I have watched many of his videos and wins. He definitely was an amazing athlete (thats an understatment) but I asked cause I remember him winning many of the more cardio events AND the power house ones. thats why I was asking.
Am I wrong to assume that WSM has gotten more into brute strength vs strength/cardio

Bear, if you have the time, read the books first. i swear, your first post... its almost the exact same situation as the character in the book.
havent seen the movie, but tom cruise is about half the size as the guy in the book.
the whole series on the books are here

I'd say it's an equal combo of both, when you consider the strength it takes to lift, push, throw, pull or carry a train, truck, plane, atlas ball, keg, log or car & then combine it with the distances, heights, speeds & time limits, it's not hard to see one has to be in top shelf condition cardiovascularly. (I know that's not a word, but I don't care.........it's a word now..lol)

Yea- they are small muscles. You have to work the inner ab muscles more than the outer ab muscles (the ones you see) otherwise you end up looking bloated. Using weights added to that problem I had that problem for a LONG time. The side leg lifts, hanging V, and wood chops will help you there and you should see your stomach almost "sucking in" after a few months. Let the inner ab muscles "pull in" your outer abs and you end up with a lot more definition.

Bah... Bear is a big softie... you can tell by his "tone" in his posts. Give him a twinkie and he'll leave you alone. He probably watches chick flicks and cries even after taking Arimidex to control the E2.

The issue with us short guys (5'7") is, in my case at least, we are usually leaving with the hot chicks and you big bastards get pissed off. Then you have to do the "shoulder bump" or come out the side of your mouth with something. Then us little guys have to put you in check. Then go home and knock off this fine peice we were leaving with while you are trying to figure out what jumped from behind the little guy and knocked me out.

Honestly I have been guilty of Neopolian Syndrome tho. Thats usually when I had too much to drink. But I swear big guys do sometimes like to f**k with us just because they think we will walk away. Although 6+ 275 lbs I am prob walking away. Unless he does something to my wife or kid then he wont walk away. LOL Neopolian Syndrome again...
