Cutting With Carbs
Does anyone cut without dropping carbs much? i think i am going to initiate a cutting diet without lowering carbs too much. i am going to go just below maintanance level yet keep carbs pretty moderate. basically just lower the amount of foods im eating not the ratios. it is 40/40/20 pro/carb/fat. when fat loss begins i will up my EFA's but not adjust my carbs. anyone think this approach may work, or better yet...anyone had success with one similiar?

I do the 40/40/20 setup. However I start cutting at about 60/20/20 then adjust the further along I get. I actaully increase my carb intake as I progress. I'll let you try and figure out why.....

nova, my current cutting diet is about 40/40/20.... I'm a hardgainer so wanted to try and not drop carbs too much and risk losing what lean mass I've recently gained. Around 2500 calories with all carbs at Pre-workout, pwo, and ppwo.
a few weeks in (minus a three day setup of drinking for spring break) and definately looking leaner..... i'll be posting pics in a bit, I'll keep you posted.
in the meantime, curious to see what your diet looks like... post it up!

I am cutting right now with around 300g of carbs on training days, and 200g on non training days. I am 240 ish lbs though, but still failry high carbs, I gotta have carbs or I lose mass.

yeah i agree, i noticed on my last cut i lost some strength i am going to try and keep mine.
my actual 12 weeks goal is to keep everything teh same size while cutting my weist size a little and ripping up. so basically gain as much muscle as i am losing in fat, if that makes since.

Sounds good... I hear ya about school... Getting sleep has been more difficult than diet as of late.
1 quick question: how do you anticipate your carb intake will differ on training days as opposed to non-training days?
Also, would you consider yourself an ecto or endo?

i cut on high carbs.
It's what i did before i came on the boards.. It's what i do now
I listened to the arguments against high-carb.. and for low-carb..I tried the pro/fat conundrum.. and lost more LBM than when i went high-carb.
So i'm back to it...back to what works

Thanks spound.... that's been a nagging question for a while now. Appreciate the feedback.
1 more question: Where is recommended to put the carb meals while cutting on non-training days?
Normally, I center them around training, but with no training..... I was thinking morning and early afternoon.

It depends on how many carbs you are taking in and how many meals, but generally I usually just start out with an even # of carbs per meal and then taper them off between like 2 meals. FOr example, on non training days right now while dieting I have 190g carbs. I have 50-60 g in meal #1, 50 in meal #2, meal #3 is around 50g, and meal #4 is around 30-40g and then after that I jsut dont have carbs unless its green veggies.
I do cardio in the am before breakfast.

You just have to rememebr that What you eat is very important, but also HOW much you eat is as well. Just b/c you are eating clean foods all day doesnt mean you will lose weight, and if you are eating too little of those clean foods then you will drop muscel with the fat, so just find your number. My recommendation is jsut to start a little higher than estimated and slowly bring thigns down while monitoring your weigh, you dont want to be dropping much more than 2 lbs per week, except the first week b/c you will drop a lot of water

sorry about nbot posting back on my thread i am sorting out a few things about my diet. i have decided that im not going to post my diet up. everyone will think im a damn looney the way im cutting anyway because of some closemindedness here. nonetheless, thanks for the discussion and i may keep a log of my progress throughout the summer. i do freshman orientation at my school and am busy for 12 hours, 4 days a week so things may not go as planned at first, but i will definately give it 100%

i dont look into any of that endo/ecto crap. if you eat too much u gain fat, if u eat to little you lose muscle. its just about finding the breaking point of whats too much or too little and then adding dedication to which ever you choose.
