Can somebody please fill me in on this egg white buisness...

    OKay, bare with me
Every second diet I see here and other places, every second person has egg-whites incorperated in somwhere, usually with breakfast. When someone claims to be eating for e.g. 5 egg whites a day do they actually mean:

5 egg whites from an actual egg cracked and cooked

some kind of egg white powder supplement

    a casien type powder

Its a dumbass question but I would like to incorperate egg whites into my diet but can't see myself cracking and cooking several egg whites every morning or can afford it.

Can someone fill me in im out in the dark on this one...

    Sometimes.

Eggwhites separated from the yolk... and cooked.

    Sometimes, posters use pasteurized eggwhites.

This is a product made of pastuerized liquid egg whites.

    Fairly convenient.

^^This is seldom what is meant. But, egg-white protein powder is a viable substitution.

..Especially when it comes from companies like Beverly international.

    Nope.. 'casein-like' would be milk-derived..As casein is a milk-derivative.

    Why?

Takes all of 5 minutes to crack and separate a dozen.

I buy whole eggs, and separate the whites from yolk as said before. Buying 6 dozen a week gets you the old "Stocking up on eggs or something?" Quote from the cashier. I just throw out the yolks. I found this to be cheaper than buying the egg whites in a carton.

Where I am from they sell something called "Egg beaters" which is pasteurized egg whites. All you do is measure the amount you want and cook them up...or drink them. 1/4 cup=1 egg.

    Egg Beaters:
    vegetable gums (xanthan
    gum, guar gum), color
    (includes beta carotene)

When I eat an egg I only want the egg, not colored egg products

I like "All Whites" brand egg whites, come in a carton like egg beaters but are just pure egg whites. I'd rather pay a little bit extra and not have to crack 10 eggs every morning.

I read a study that was examining the bioavailability of cooked vs. raw egg whites... cooked, it was about 92% and raw it was just over 50%. So I'd highly recommend cooking them unless you're running out the door like a bat out of hell then you can mix them with a scoop of protein or something.

You can usually get a dozen eggs for around $2.50 Australian. Just by the home brand ones.

I either hard boil the eggs and remove the yolks or scramble them some with and some without yolks. I have friends who drink them raw but I would not recommend it.
