Turkey Bacon vs. Pork Bacon
here are the macros for each
Turkey bacon (1 slice)
Total Fat 2.5g
Sat 1.5g
Carb 0g
Protein 2g
Pork Bacon (1 slice)
Total Fat 1.5
Sat .5
Carb 0g
Protein 3g
so yea, sat fat is less in pork and the protein is more. But why do u guys praise turkey bacon so much?
is there something im missing here? something im not gettin? if i go according to the macros, pork bacon wins hands down
3 slices of turkey - 4.5g sat fat, 5g protein
3 slices of pork - 1.5g sat fat, 9g protein
so can someone maybe help me out here? thanks alot !!

I don't really care for swine so I tried some turkey bacon. Big mistake. The shit was horrible. It tasted like paper or something.

how is it cleaner?!?! pork meat is pork meat, just like any other meat substance, the protein is all the same, now if we're talkiun about fat, then yes, pork in general is a much fattier meat, but this isnt slabs of pork we're talking about here, this is a little strip with obviously some fat still left on it, but enough to make it .5 sat while turkey is 1g sat.
and on another note for the turkey being a cleaner protein, the pork sat fat is oleic(sp?) acid, which has MCT's if i remember correctly, so even the .5g sat fat in the pork is even good for you

There is much difference between the type of turkey meat that you get. I found the same thing out about ground turkey.
Ground turkey conspiracy.

Pigs are filthy animals. I don't eat filthy animals.
Yeah but bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste good.
Hey, sewer rat may taste like pumpkin pie, but I'd never know 'cause I wouldn't eat the filthy mother-fu**ers. Pigs sleep and root in sh**. That's a filthy animal. I ain't eating nothing that ain't got sense enough to disregard his own feces.
How 'bout a dog? Dog eats his own feces.
I don't eat dog either.
Yeah, but do you consider a dog to be a filthy animal?
I wouldn't go so far as to call a dog filthy, but they definitely dirty. But, dog's got personality; personality goes a long way.
Ahh, so by that rational, if a pig had a better personality, he would cease to be a filthy animal. Is that true?
Well, we'd have to be talking one charming mother-fu**ing pig.
Sorry, couldn't help myself, Im a big Pulp Fiction fan and this thread seemed headed in this direction.

omg..... come on guys, educate yourself a bit
just because a pig eats his own shit, doesnt mean his body is gonna be made up of rotten filthy meat. His body is made, his instestines are made to break down such filth and make it into usefull and healthy food for the animal to live
you know chicken eat little rocks to eat there feed? so u sayin we're gonna eat rock filled chicken meat?
you know we drink soda, juice, liquor, the most nastiest liquids in this world and you know how it comes out? purified and clean right when we use the restroom
sooooo for you to say that pigs eat shit there body is composed of shitty muscles and shitty instestines and shitty etc is just plain ignorant.

*Yawn*
It comes down to the brand and type you get...as well as your goals and tastes.
'Extra lean' turkey bacon [1 slice (15.0 g)]=
Total Fat 0.5g
Sodium 140mg
Protein 3.0g
Pork Bacon (12.0 g a smaller serving size)=
Total Fat 4.0g
Sodium 270mg
Protein 4.0g
From this comparison, turkey bacon 'wins'.
There will be differences between brands and classifications (i.e. low-fat, fat-free etc.), which will influence how many kcals are in the end product.
It's particularly sickening that people jump on the band wagon after reading one post.
I wonder how many people would have switched to pork bacon simply because they were too lazy to check out calorie-count.com, or read a nutrition label for themselves.

do u actually believe nark that bc an animal or anything lviing for that matter feeds off of what other may see as disgusting and vile and retched automatically classify the meeat/body makeup of the animal to be rancid or rotten?
i dont beleive that because a pig may eat "shit" his meat will be made up of "shit" as well
am i right or am i wrong?
oh and btw, nice reply, i guess its just according to the macros that decides which is better. so if i find a healthy pork bacon than most healthy turkey bacons, then obviously pork wins, or vice versa

First off, he didn't comment on my comment.
Yes, the macros are gonna decide which is better by helping you decide what product is most efficient to meet your nutritional needs. If the rest of your diet is intact, the type of bacon you eat is not gonna alter your results.

If you guys are so infatuated with pork then eat pork. No one's forcing you to eat turkey, nor does anyone care if you do.

thats not the point. the point is, if according to the macros the food of your choice to eat is ok with your daily diet, is it ok to eat it?
lets put it this way
1 cup of shit
243g or protein (with a bioavailiblity of 100%)
2g carb
6g of fat (0g sat, 3g poly 3g mono)
would you eat it?!?!?!

there ya go!! so i guess i shoulda have asked a diff question that generalizes the whole food macros thing
if the macros fit in your diet, go for it, REGARDLESS of what source of nutrients it comes from.
thanks everyone for help making this thread very informative and all your critisism and feedback and comments were very much appreciated

Nah, I don't know if the "if it fits your macros" thing is always true.

Novastepp said it best:
"when i say if it fits into your macros i am talking about the dietary approach they have chosen. usually a cutting diet or a lean mass diet. not some bullshit experiment to see how much garbage fits into their daily caloric needs."

the turkey bacon i eat has different macros than the one you are talking about. I eat the Jennie-O extra lean brand and the macros are as follows
1 serving (1 slice)
20 calories 4 calories from fat
0.5 grams of Fat
3 g of protien
140 mg of sodium
