It is unknown at this time how many children are dead but officials are trying to prepare the public for a slaughter. Rumor has it that it was a students father that did this. Makes one wonder how many more innocent men women and children must die before Americans get fed up enough to put these criminals down once and for all sending a message to others that if you commit such a crime you yourself will be put to death. This will stop. Notice in other countries who abide by this philosophy that the crime rate is minimal. Because the threat of death for killing does work. But this is just my opinion, but obviously our present laws do not work.

This is extremely f*cked up. 27 reported dead, at least 10 children had their lives taken involuntarily taken away from them. Those numbers don't include the wounded. I believe the Columbine Shooting was 15 dead including both gunmen, which makes this the largest school shooting on US soil.

Just confirmed 9 adults and 18 children dead on CNN. Reported 2 suspects, one deceased and one taken away in handcuffs.

Updated at 12:40 p.m. ET: As many as 20 children were shot at a Connecticut elementary school Friday morning, two officials told NBC News. There was no information on the status of the victims, though the gunman was later found dead.

The incident sent crying children spilling into the school parking lot as frightened parents looked for word on their loved ones.

"I was in the gym and I heard a loud, like seven loud booms, and the gym teachers told us to go in the corner, so we all huddled," one student at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown told NBC Connecticut during its live broadcast. "And I kept hearing these booming noises. And we all … started crying.

"All the gym teachers told us to go into the office where no one could find us," she added. "So then a police officer came in and told us to run outside. So we did and we came in the firehouse and waited for our parents."

Two 9mm handguns were recovered from the scene, an official told WNBC's Jonathan Dienst.

Three people were taken to nearby Danbury Hospital, a spokeswoman told NBC Connecticut. She would not elaborate on the ages of the victims or their conditions.

One of those taken to the hospital was a teacher who had been shot in the foot, the Associated Press reported, citing a dispatcher at the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.

The Newtown Bee reported that one child, apparently wounded, was carried from the scene by a police officer.

In a photo taken by the Bee, crying students could be seen being escorted from the school by police. They were taken to a nearby fire station where their parents were picking them up.

A third-grader, Alexis Wasik, told the Hartford Courant that police checked students and staffers before they were escorted to the fire station.

"We had to walk with a partner," she said.

NBC Connecticut reported that the entire school district was in lockdown.

At Sandy Hook, police, ATF and FBI agents were going room to room searching the school.

They can just as easily obtain propane tanks filled with propane and put time delay fuses on them and put them in the schools or where ever and still produce the same terror. Or like terrorists they can fill a van up with fertilizer and use it as a weapon. Hell there are lots of web sites that tell how easy it is to produce such destructive devices. We need to figure out what is making these people snap and go postal like they are or lose all of our freedoms and end up like a Russia or China or England where there are cameras every where you walk drive or stay and everything you do or say is recorded. But to Englands credit crime is less over there. It just sucks that drastic measure have to be enforced to try to stop the lunatics these days.

Just can't fathom how much of a f*cked up individual you have to be to purposely target CHILDREN. Kids in Kindergarden through Fourth Grade that had their whole lives ahead of them. Guarantee a majority of them haven't even had their first kiss or first love yet! Think about the moments life has to offer that they're never going to enjoy such as sex, true love, marriage, etc. Imagine the thoughts going through the parents minds being worried sick that their own creation was killed by some deranged psychopath. Will banning guns make it harder for psycho's to do this kind of stuff? Maybe. Only a psycho would go to a gun store and buy the gun they plan to murder with. Most sane criminals buy their guns underground. If someone flips and can't get guns, I think (there's no way to know for sure) they'll just find another way to kill, Timothy Mcveigh is a fantastic example. Will removing all legally owned guns remove guns in general, or will it be the driving force behind criminal profiteering, much like prohibition was and marijuana is (not saying I advocate legalization, just that prohibition is the driving force behind criminal production and distribution). The arguments go both ways, and both sides have very valid arguments. But there's one problem, nobody is asking WHY this is happening, and what we as a society can do to remove the problem at it's base roots.

Well I know this won't help any but it seems we are not alone in our grief of loss. It has been reported that a Chinese adult went on a killing spree at one of the local schools in China. He stabbed over 2 dozen children using a knife. So this is what I'm saying about banning guns. It won't make a difference IMO as killers will kill regardless. Unfortunately. but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do all we can to keep the guns out of mentally unstable people.

Although this happened in China in 2010, it shows that nut jobs are all over the world..

At least 22 children and one adult have been injured in a knife attack outside a primary school in central China, police say.

An officer said the attack, in the village of Chengping in Henan province, happened shortly before 8am on Friday, as students were arriving for classes.

The attacker, believed to be 36-year-old villager Min Yingjun, is in police custody, said officials.

A county hospital administrator said the man first attacked an elderly woman, then students, before being subdued by security guards. Two students have since been transferred to "better-equipped" hospitals outside the county.

China has witnessed a spate of school stabbings in recent years, leading to more security guards being deployed across the vast country.

In March 2010, eight children were murdered in Nanping, Fujian province, by 41-year-old knifeman Zheng Minsheng. The attacker was executed a month later, hours before 33-year-old Chen Kangbing injured 16 students and a teacher at Hongfu Primary School in Leizhou, Guangdong.

In April 29 2010, 28 school children - mostly four-year-olds - were stabbed alongside two teachers and a security guard in Taixing, Jiangsu. On April 30, Wang Yonglai committed suicide after using a hammer to attack preschool children in Weifang, Shandong.

Further attacks in the months and years following have left 11 children and four adults dead, and several more injured.

Stopping loopholes like that and the loop hole for guns show purchases may help and there is no legit reason they shouldnt be closed. If you are a responsible gun owner you should have no issue waiting for a back ground check

Like I said, only a psycho would legitimately buy guns to use for that purpose. I also have no issue with a background check in order to buy guns. My whole point is getting rid of the guns doesn't get rid of the psychos!!!! We get caught in these pointless arguments that aren;t even about WHY these people are doing these things. Why are we not catching these people before they snap? What has happened that has made them feel this is a necessary course of action!?! Sure, lets get rid of the guns. Ok, maybe we saved a few lives, but psychos use other methods. Now we do what, ban knives? Fertilizer and diesel? Household chemicals? I'd rather feel safe with cameras than have my schools or cinemas shot up every 3 months. How can you resolve everybody's mental issues when they always seem like normal people, according to those that know them. We don't allow guns and people don't fill propane tanks with time delay fuses to destroy lives.

I'm trying to make a point that has nothing to do with banning guns or not. I'm gonna go bash my head into the wall, i'll be much less painful. Ban the guns, don't ban the guns, it's not the point I'm trying to make. While both sides argue over guns, a bunch of school children were murdered in cold blood for reasons unknown.

Huge Gun reform coming and its about time. I sit here saying I need to get a gun to protect myself from people like this but the body line for every 100 people that are sane you have one person out there that isnt and this is what happens. There isnt even a punishment for these people bc half the time they kill themselves.
