Um...not at all. I have to read this 15 page article about adolescent smoking behavior...bleh.

I'll give it a nice scan thru before I hit the sac. Not really worried about that class.

Cell biology though...one of the toughest classes at my university so I gotta prep well.

Well, I think I have my muscles around the lumbar area are naturally very tight, but I'm flexible as hell and normal stretching doesn't do much.

May be a combo of bad form as well as not maintaining neutral spine position. I'm gonna have someone watch me do them next time for tips. I may just switch it up with smith squats until I figure it out.

There is actually a wonderful article about it in the Lifting Technique's forum Kate:

    Better Strength Articles

This has helped me improve my form and increase my lifts simultaneously in a very short time.

Actually, good you mentioned stunner...front squats are good for developing form before you begin free squatting heavy.

Kate...start w/ just the bar until you feel comfortable adding any weight. You won't hurt yourself long as you set the rack pins to catch you if you should fall forward/backward.

Honestly...don't have a clue. I don't know what I really want to do w/ my degree in Biology. I hope I will be able to incorporate into whatever I end up doing in the future, though.

Fitness training will be an on the side thing 'til I finish school...but I have a feeling it may end up being my occupation.

Smith squats are still good for "isolating" the quads or hams respective to how far forward/backward your feet are. You don't have to ditch them all together. But free squatting will help build more strength and mass.

Hmm.. I just don't know how much mass I want.. I have naturally bigger legs because i was a figure skater for 10 years.. so the muscles in my legs grow very quick... but I th ought it would help to target muscles that perhaps the smith isn't reaching..

    yup, thats what squats do!

like in smith squats you dont risk falling forwad or backward, so theres no hamstrings getting involved there

als oyour lower back does get some work while squatting

Training the legs HARD while cutting is a very good way to speed your metabolism and instigate fat loss. Good luck!
