Some of it was provoked I think too. I don’t know what was said out of sight and I have to respect the decisions that were made. I fucking really liked that dude though and respected his style.

I used to go hunt with a diver friend and his dogs, near Lafayette, he used a spear with a vicious blade at the end. He like it so much that I never got to shoot anything until one time I said fuck it and as soon as his dogs were clear I shot the boar six times with my 1911. It made a big mess and he was pissed but I was happy. ...I din't get invited back.
Another was a greenskeeper in Yulee, Florida. We used to trap boars in pits and feed them for weeks before having a cookout. That was real good meat. Sometimes we could get one of the real crackers to cut the balls off while we had it roped up and that made the meat even better.

Yeah, even for me...that's pretty fvcked up. I don't do dead babies. In Arkansas, our deer season goes until Feb 28th, but there's no way in hell, I'm hunting that late. The last thing I want to do is field dress a deer and have a baby deer come out bleating at me...yeah, fuck no. Even worse, I remember the first suction D&C I had to do in the OR. Afterwards, I went and told my boss in these EXACT words..." never fucking again...unless it's an absolute emergency and I'm the only RNFA available - never again". I've had quite a few ectopic that I've been called in for in the middle of the night since then, but no more suction D&C's. There's just something about the suction sound and the chopped up baby arms and legs that bother me, you know?

Not hunted for close to 18-years which is the last time I had a chance to head out with dad. Spent 8-hours in the silence seeing absolutely nothing. Was still worth every damn minute of alone time. Dad is getting a bit old for hunting so not sure that will happen again and I do not have the drive to do it myself.

Using color footage he shot himself, Proenneke traces how he came to this remote area, selected a homestead site and built his log cabin completely by himself.
