Yep. I can't remember if it was docd(randomassortmentof#'s) or atomini or maybe both plus some other fairly knowledgeable guys tried to start up their own forum sometime around 2013/14. I checked it out once. It was the same kind of deal. Copycat site of this one but without the traffic. Does anybody know whatever happened with that? I can't even remember the name. Did they ever make anything of it?

The more I learn about the bromance between sil and obs the more it reminds me of the princess bride. Here you've Sil (Princess Buttercup) and his lover Obs (Westley). Unfortunately, they've now been separated by that tyrant Admin (Prince Humperdinck). I feel Sil and Admin are just begging for new user names. Sil as Princess Buttercup and we'll call Admin "Humper" for short.

If you think about it, it fits. Sil does spend a lot of time in the castle.

Treasure of the Sierra Madre has to be one of the top two (english-language) films ever, depending where you rank Citizen Kane. Without question, Bogey's best work. No quibble there.

Most John Wayne films were about as blunt as a smithy's hammer but The Searchers had an exquisitely subtle subplot (whether the Duke wanted it or not). Not John Ford's strong suit either. Truth be told, what he and Wayne did for a living was keep all of the Duke's poker and hunting buddies in drinking money.

Seriously. A reporter once cornered Wayne on a film set and asked him why he bothered to keep working when he already was in the 90% tax bracket, adding, "You can't need the money that badly." Wayne pointed to all the extras and said, "Maybe not, but they do."

The Coen brothers' True Grit sucked ass. Matt Damon was even worse as LaBoeuf than Glenn Campbell, which was a shit performance I never thought possible to eclipse. I love Barry Pepper's work but his 'Lucky' Ned Pepper was horrific. And what idiot thought it would be a good idea to make up Matty Ross to look like Wednesday Addams?




It's ludicrous to put Rio Bravo on any list without El Dorado also on the same list because they're THE EXACT SAME FILMS except for Robert Mitchum/James Caan/Walter Brennan versus Dean Martin/Ricky Nelson/Arthur Hunnicutt. If you could use CGI to swap one drunken sheriff/young sidekick/crusty old deputy for the other, no one would notice.

And anybody who puts any Sergio Leone film on a "Best Anything" list is certifiably insane.

Still more proof that dying young is a great career move (just ask Jim Morrison, Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix & Kurt Kobain). James Dean will be 24 forever. He was dead a month before Rebel was released and almost a year before Giant came out.

The studio forbade him to race while they were filming but Giant had just wrapped and he was eager to get back under the wheel so he had entered a race in Salinas. He was driving his Porsche 550 Speedster on a 2-lane state road near Paso Robles when a car driven by a guy named "Turnupseed" turned left in front of him. The responding police officer's report listed "speeding" as the cause but crash damage shows Dean was only going maybe 55. It was Turnupseed cutting him off that killed him.

His passenger in the car was Rolf Wütherich, Porsche factory mechanic and former Nazi. The car was new and Wütherich suggested Dean should drive it instead of trailering it to give it a "shake-down" before the race. But he was thrown clear of the car and survived.

Have you seen the James Spader film, "Crash"? Spader's character gets hooked up with some people who share a fetish for being in car crashes. To get their rocks off they stage famous crashes in which they play the different roles. Like the Jane Mansfield crash. And in the final scene of the film, one of the group sets up the James Dean crash, complete with Porsche 550. And he needs a mechanic for authenticity so it's a 2-man job. But the guy who plays Dean (the driver) fully intends to die in the crash.

Yeah, it's sorta ... out there.
