Just to restrain from any misinterpretation - 20% above maintenance is not staple value, it may vary per individual. However, in my opinion this is the upper limit for the average not geneteic freak person, with no particular risk to affect your progress adversely.
Between cheat meal and cheat meal there might be a huge difference, that`s why I`d like to take diet break - go to a restaurant and have someting like beef steak with baked potatoes, small beer and a salad. I`d also go for grilled salmon with basmati rice or similar. Not quite cheating, but has recreational effect as yet.Last edited by alex.mitev; 02-08-2013 at 06:56 AM.

Someone please explain this to me .....
Picture on the left (3 weeks ago) weight was 170
Picture on the right (taken this am) is 171.2
Noticeable difference all around... Yet weight is up? This is the first time I've weighed myself in 2 weeks because my curiosity got the best of me.
After this, I'm putting the scale away cause it totally bums me out. Progress pics I'm very pleased w/ but weight I'd like to see move as well, eventually....
So confused

Wow... HUGE difference... night and day... in only 3 weeks!?!
This is why the scale, when used alone as a tool (I know that's not what you did), can and will drive people insane. You have CLEARLY lost bodyfat, but your weight is up. That could be a combination of some LBM gains plus water. It could simply be time of day. I know my weight personally fluctuates ~10lbs over the course of 24 hours.
I always preach using 4 tools in tandem: scale, progress pics, how your clothes fit, and most importantly, MEASUREMENTS!!! When you combine these 4, you'll get a pretty accurate snapshot of what's going on with your body.
It would also be a good idea to do this once a week at the same time. e.g. I always did my measurements Saturday mornings, before eating, and after 'emptying'. We need to make it as controlled as possible.
Overall, great job. Keep it up, you're gonna do amazing things!

Hang in there and keep the motivation high... you look great and must have lost a bunch of inches. I am currently in the same boat! I'm up 3 pounds this week but can visually see change and I had to move my belt to the last available (smaller direction) hole! Just keep doing what you are doing and it will continue to come off. If you start to see a plateau then make a change ie increase cardio, change timing of carbs or reduce carbs etc...
Good Luck and looking forward to progress updates.

That number on the scale is a woman thing. It bothered me for the longest time too but it's not am accurate gauge of your progress. Look a the proof in the pics! Amazing change and u celebrated your bday during this stretch. Be proud girl!

Wow! Thats a nice difference! Looking good
Well, I for one do not like weighing in just once every or every other week, because too many things come into play when it comes to your current weight. I weigh myself EVERY morning at the same time, and the weight fluctuates quite a bit even so, but over a week or two I can easily pick up on a TREND, up or down.
As for reasons to why the scales are going up, there can be several.
*Different timing - If youre weighing in at night, then you've had the whole day to eat, and do, different things which will affect your weight. Mornings are best.
*Eating differently - More salt = more waterweight for instance.
*Been training or not - Less or more glycogen, and thus also less or more water. I *think* you carry 4 grams of water for every gram of glycogen.
*More LBM - self explanatory.
*Carrying more food inside your bowels at the time if the weigh in - Not gonna get into this one more.
*For females, if you're at, or close to, your period - This will make you hold onto more water.
Anyways, as GB says, trust the mirror, trust the way you clothes fit or trust a tapemeasure!
You've absolutely done great progress on only three weeks!! Keep it up

I get bummed because I've been stuck for so long in the 160's. can't seem to break the number, so when I think I'm doing good, I weigh myself (but no more than once per week) only to find that the scale has gone up. It's incredibly frustrating. When I do weigh myself, it is first thing in the morning before food & water & after I've gone pee (not to get graphic but don't usually have a bowel movement until the afternoon, and that has been irregular as well). I start my cycle late next week too so I'm starting to feel fatigued, bloated & all that jazz... Gosh it's wonderful being a woman sometimes lol..
With that being said, I can't ignore the progress I've made, I'm quite pleased with it actually. My scale is put away & won't be used again for a long time. Will measure progress w/ pics & measurements.
Thanks again for your kind words! :-)

Yeah, I know THAT feeling all too well, you get stuck every now and then, and it sucks! And once you manage to get below that weight, two weeks later you're above it again. For no apparent reason whatsoever! Bloody annoying is what it is.
Doing some IF a few days a week, and cutting carbs completely the last 8 or so hours before bed (I work evenings, so 2-3 hours after work I go to sleep) helped me immensely, pushed me through and kept me through for a few weeks, then I could do carbs, and cut back on the IF and still drop weight again.
I believe that the mirror is the best way to judge progress, bar none. That and doing progress pictures, as changes happen so gradually that you dont really notice the difference yourself.
If you look good, does it really matter what a scale or a tapemeasure says?
Oh, and a tablespoon or two of Flax seeds a day, with plenty of water, is very good to get your stomach going like clockwork!
Looking forward to seeing your next update

Nah, I'm with BiB/Stem: keep going!
Whatever you're doing, you're clearly doing it right!
Looking good!!!
Loosing fat but gaining weight, like you are, probably means more LBM, and more LBM means a higher TDEE, which will help burn that fat off even quicker!
When progress starts to stagnate, then its time to tweak your diet again.

Thank you for ur support!
