Brewers - McClung (5-3) vs. D-Backs - Petit (0-1) @ 8:40pm CST.

There was a debate this morning who was the most important player to resign (non-pitcher). Most said Corey Hart while the host of the radio show said Prince Fielder. I would have to go with Corey Hart as he is a better overall baseball player IMO. He gives you greater consistency as well.

"What should be the Brewers' top priority before the trade deadline?"

I went with a starting pitcher if they are serious about grabbing that last wild card spot from the Cardinals.

The Cards beat the Mets 8-7. The Cards were heavily underestimated at the beginning of the season...and still are IMO.

Cubs beat the Giants 6-5 as well. If the Brewers go into another one of their slumps soon, it could be all over.

Brewers - M. Parra (8-2, 3.95) vs. Diamondbacks - B. Webb (12-4, 3.21) @ 2:40pm CST.

Parra should pistol whip the bullpen. 5-0 in the bottom of the nineth and the Brewers lose 5-6.
-
07-04-2008, 10:22 AM #330
Three relief pitchers (Mota, Shouse, and Torres) in the nineth and none of them could register one out...embarrassing.
-
07-04-2008, 10:22 AM #331
Parra is developing into a fine pitcher. If you go back to the last game he pitched in, I believe he has thrown thirteen scoreless innings.
-

Corey Hart is just three points away from .300 again. Hardy and Hart have been carrying the top of the lineup on their backs as of late. No production from Braun or Fielder.

At least the Cubs and Cardinals both lost their games.
-

Finally...only a game behind the Cardinals.
-

Now the Brewers just need to sweep the Pirates and it's no lose situation for them. They will either gain ground on the Cubs or Cards.
-

Dave Bush pitches eight full innings and only gives up one run to the Pirates. Gagne come in the nineth and throws a scoreless inning and picks up the win. Brewers 2
Pirates 1

Fielder, finally, comes through in the clutch yesterday. Weeks scores, on Fielder's hit, to give the Crew a win in the bottom of the nineth.

I don't really understand why he has stuck with Rickie Weeks so long. He is not a leadoff hitter and never will be.
I will admit that Yost is putting a shorter lease on his pitchers. He doesn't leave them out as long as he used to.
The Brewers are going strong into the All-Star break so a lot of the heat is off Yost right now. Players like Braun and Fielder need to step up...especially Fielder. Fielder did yesterday.

We are one game behind the Cardinals. If the season ended today, the Cards would have the Wild Card spot. We're in it but the Brewers collasped in the second half of last season. They will need to prove that they can finish the year strong. If they don't make the Wild Card spot, Yost could be gone.

Pirates - Z. Duke (4-5, 3.88) vs. Brewers - J. Suppan (5-6, 4.30) @ 1:05pm CST.
-
Not sure that was a smart move for the Brewers to get CC at that price. He's just a rental for the rest of the season and they gave up their best prospect. We'll see though...

Brewers make the rumored trade and acquire C.C. Sabathia from the Indians.

It is rumored that CC Sabathia will pitch on Tuesday. I wonder who they will take out of the rotation? Dave Bush?

Cardinals and Cubs have off today. Time for the Brewers to gain a half game with a win. Crew would move into second place and be three games behind the Cubs.

I wonder if the Cubs will make any interesting deals before the trading deadline. The Brewers got an early start.

Yost's insertion of Branyan was a failure. Branyan was 0-4 with two strikeouts and an error. He should have stayed with the hot Bill Hall.

Fielder was able to make it a little closer with a two run home run in the eighth. Rockies won 4-3...disappointing loss.

Back in third place and sitting four games behind the Cubs.

Strange to see Parra throwing an inning last night. Fourteen consecutive scoreless innings thrown by Parra. Why have him lose a start when he is pitching the best on the team?

CC wins in his debut as a Brewer.
Braun's three run home run in the first inning set the tone for the game.

It would be nice to see Sheets and CC have a friendly competition to see who can go out and have the better performance.
-

Rockies - G. Reynolds (2-6, 6.71) vs. Brewers - B. Sheets (10-2, 2.77) @ 7:05pm CST.
-

The Brewers lineup let Glendon Fuc*king Rusch lock them down. A former Brewer pitcher who had one win and twelve losses in one of his seasons with us.
-
07-10-2008, 08:30 AM #358
Mota squashed any comeback attempts by giving up four runs (two home runs) in the eight inning. They need to cut their losses with him.
-
07-10-2008, 08:31 AM #359
Bush is pitching today. Let me get this straight. Parra loses a start to CC and Bush doesn't. WTF! Fourteen consecutive scoreless inning pitched by Parra and it earns him a seat on the bench? Of all the pitchers, Parra gets the best run support by far.

Cubs beat the Reds 5-1...Brewers fall to five games behind.
