Brewers - S. McClung (5-5, 4.16) vs. Cardinals - J. Pineiro (3-4, 4.52) @ 6:05pm CST.

"How would you assess the Brewer's play the first half of the season?" http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=mil
Brewers were predicted to take third in the division and that is where they were at. I don't how someone could say above or exceeded.

McClung ended pitching a lot better than I thought he would he usually gives us five innings but doesn't give up only two runs often...especially against a good offense like the Cardinals.
-
07-22-2008, 06:33 AM #404
Holy shit...Hardy went 4-6.
Brewers left 21 men on base though. Score wouldn't been as close as it was if they could hit better with men on base.

I was nervous as hell when they had Mota warming up in the bullpen after Branyan pinch hit for McClung. Fortunately, he pitched a scoreless inning.
-

A big win on the road pulls them even with the Cardinals.
-
07-22-2008, 06:35 AM #407
Randy Johnson still hasn't ever lost a game to the Cubs.
-
07-22-2008, 06:36 AM #408
Tough loss for the Cubs Harden. He struck out ten and only gave up one run in seven innings of work.
-
07-22-2008, 08:06 AM #409
Only two games behind the Cubs and sitting on a five game winning streak.
-
07-22-2008, 08:06 AM #410
With the Cardinals K. Lohse (12-2, 3.35ERA) pitching, it's going to be a hard game today. Suppan coming back makes things even more difficult.
-
07-22-2008, 08:07 AM #411
Braun was brutal. 0-6, two strikeouts, and four left on base.
-
07-22-2008, 08:08 AM #412
Torrres had his fourth blown save of the season in the nineth but was able to pick up the win in the tenth inning.
-
07-22-2008, 08:09 AM #413
Cubs are 1-3, on the road, after the All-Star game.
-
07-22-2008, 08:23 AM #414
Brewers - J. Suppan (5-6, 4.71) vs. Cardinals - K. Lohse (12-2, 3.35) @ 7:15pm CST.
-
07-27-2008, 05:37 PM #415
Reds were in last place when they took the series from the Brewers at Miller Park before the All-Star break. Now the Brewers lost another series at Miller Park to a last place team (Astros) in the division. WTF?
-
07-27-2008, 05:38 PM #416
Jeff Suppan sucks and he has not lived up to the contract he signed. He has been a disapointment to say the least.
Seven runs given up in just the fifth inning alone!
-
07-31-2008, 08:43 AM #417
Four games out of first place and tied with the Cardinals. Should only get worse after today's game.
-
07-31-2008, 08:44 AM #418
Cubs - R. Harden (5-2, 2.10) vs. Brewers - D. Bush (5-8, 4.51) @ 1:05pm CST.
-
Brewers are getting shelled right now...I wonder if all the prospect trades were worth it?
-
08-01-2008, 10:31 AM #420
I think the Cubs just showed the Brewers they cant keep up.

14 consecutive scoreless innings in the last two games combined. The Brewers lineup has underachieved this season and is failing the starting pitching. Parra should have been the one pushing Fielder.
-
08-05-2008, 04:49 PM #425
My feelings exactly. Word is Prince pushed Parra because he was leaving the dugout and they were losing. Baseball custom is to at least watch the end of the inning you have pitched. Especially if you are down. Hard to pitch when your team are not scoring any runs so really Parra should have been the one arking up.

I'm still waiting for someone to explain how Ben Sheets could still be considered a number one pitcher on this team. Sabathia is complete game pitching machine. What is this...his fourth complete game since becoming a Brewer?
-
08-09-2008, 11:46 AM #428
I'd like to see the Cubs sweep the Cards so the Brewers can increase their lead for the Wild Card spot. Two games up on the Cards currently.
With every start Sabathia makes, you expect to see a Brewers win. You can't always say that with their other starting pitchers. Sheets and Parra are now struggling with Suppan and Bush are pitching well. Go figure.

Backup catcher Rivera is reportedly unhappy with his playing time. He has swung the bat very well this season and I would like to see him get more time in. Kendall has been excellent throwing runners out but hasn't been very good with the bat for some time now.
Counsell seems to be playing everyday. He has been getting progressively worse at the plate yet his playing time has been increasing. I'll never figure out Yost.

Gagne - $10 million
Sheets - $12+ million
Throw Gagne in the dumpster and watch Sheets sign with another team and you could offer CC 21-22 million per year.
The Brewers hate Tony Gywnn Jr. for some reason so I don't know who they would get to replace Cameron. We may be stuck with him for another year. Weeks is only making about a million so he doesn't hurt as much cap wise as he does with his horrible on base percentage and the fact that Yost holds him accountable for nothing.

Nationals - T. Redding (8-6, 4.44) vs. Brewers - B. Sheets (10-5, 3.14) @ 6:05pm CST.
-
08-10-2008, 02:10 PM #432
Nice day for Durham yesterday. Two hits, an RBI, and he scored twice. Now that is what we need out of a leadoff hitter.
-
08-10-2008, 02:10 PM #433
Braun was feeling tightness in his low back so Kapler replaced him in left field.
-
08-10-2008, 02:11 PM #434
Hart's two outs were very close to being home runs. He had a chance at three home runs but only hit one yesterday.
-
08-10-2008, 02:12 PM #435
I wasn't expecting a complete game shutout from Sheets after how he has been pitching lately. Miller Park gave him a well-deserved standing ovation.
-
08-10-2008, 02:14 PM #436
Nationals - J. Lannan (6-11, 3.55) vs. Brewers - M. Parra (9-5, 4.18) @ 1:05pm CST.
-
08-13-2008, 03:28 PM #437
Jeff Suppan has turned his pitching around like Dave Bush has. They have been doing it against weak competition though. We'll see if they can do it against the Cubs in the future.
-
08-13-2008, 03:28 PM #438
CF Cameron with two hits and two strikeouts. It had been a while since he has gotten a hit. In regards to the two strikeouts...that's about his average per game.
C Rivera should get at least one more start per week.
Fielder is creeping his way up closer to Braun in home run total. Granted, it's much easier to do it with Braun being out with an injury.
-
08-13-2008, 03:30 PM #439
Brewers - Sabathia (12-8, 3.11) vs. Padres - Banks (3-4, 3.77) @ 9:05pm CST.
With Sabathia starting, hopefully the Crew can make this an eight game winning streak.

"Who should get the majority of starts at second base?"
http://milwaukee.brewers.mlb.com/index.jsp?c_id=mil
I've had it with Weeks strikeouts and poor play at second base.
Yost has given Weeks more starts with the platooning so I give my vote solely to Durham.
