Every lb of muscle tissue I build is so precious to me I wont just burn it away, my main concern when dieting is preservation of my tissue and fat loss is second. I dont cut fast I always do it slowly and steady and adjust cals or cardio to keep tricking my body into burning fat as fuel while preserving tissue. I go though hell building tissue so the last thing I want to do is just let it burn away with one of these diets what doesn't suit my body type. I train hard heavy and intense and I eat big no matter what my goals are this helps me maintain my muscle tissue even when cutting.

I am not taking anything away from anyone who uses the IF approach but many who use this approach are ripped to the bone but done carry a great deal of muscle tissue and in my past I've done certain diet and my tissue just burns away and its like a vicious circle building tissue then cutting fat but at the cost of burning tissue aswell and for me that's not what I do or advice. Every lb of tissue I want to keep and I will do everything in my power to keep it and it that involves me cutting at a very slow and steady pace than that's how I attack it.

Losing bf is a gradual process if you want lasting results so I attack more or less everything whether that's bulking or cutting via carb cycling. I eat small frequent meals what promotes efficient muscle growth from my intense training and I work my carbs around my workout days to confuse my body into burning fat as fuel while not resetting my metabolism or going into starvation mode. I usually start off with the aim to hit my maintenance cals but use cardio to make a deficit on my energy output, once I come to a hault in my gains I will carb cycle and slowly reduce carbs suited to how I respond, they are only minor adjustment and sometimes its daily adjustment whats needed depending how I look and feel. I know I say this all the time but you can't reinvent the wheel we know what works from looking back over the decades how bodybuilders build and lose bf all you need to do is adjust things so they suit your body type and workload. I am constantly feeding my body to preserve muscle tissue whether bulking or cutting and I can honestly say that's how I have built and maintained so much muscle over the years and if you ask any bodybuilder who is carrying a high % of tissue he will say the same.
As always, informative to the max!

I agree on the burning fat at the cost of tissue. I said I was gonna bulk up to 200lbs (sucks being little) and maintain that for a year and then worry about cutting. Then my wife decided to do this competition and got ripped. Plus going on a cruise plus vacation to see our family next month so I couldnt be the fat guy with the hot chick. I know I should have stuck with my plan but the BF was too high IMHO.

I like the carb cycling and it worked well in the past so after vacation I will hit the HIT and 24/7 feeding but try to keep BF in the low teens via carb cycling. Gotta stop this viscious cycle of bulking/cutting.

could be your body's way of telling you to get off the heavy routines and train like a normal human for a while

Yes I think your right, need to go lighter for a bit see if it helps. It usually sorts itself out after a week or so....I will just pull back on movements what aggravate it

Thanks, well I see you are very knowledgeble on working outs so here goes. I know one method does not work for everybody but I want your opinion. I use to always lift heavy but I have discovered that I was doing it all wrong. I am decently strong but I had trained wrong and ate wrong which came to adding a lot of bodyfat. I began last October shedding the bodyfat and went from 253 to 214. What training routine would you recommend I start with to acheive what I want? My goals are to get ripped but have the strong look. I am 43, will be 44 in August and I am going to start my first cycle of Test E. I have done all blood work and everything is fine. I do have Sleep Apnea but I have a C CPAP for that. I posted a pic of me so you have an idea of where I am. ThanksClick image for larger version.

Well done on your achievement so far. I think you would benefit from reading this thread straight from the start it will help you understand how I train and give you an idea what HIT training is all about. What is your routine now and are you see gains?

lol....speaking of which last night I think finally got the HIT down....I stopped counting reps out in my head after 6 and started sayin "get big" after each rep lol....that way I don't have a mental number and then stop after I hit a certain number....to me that allows my to actually stop when I dont have the ability to go farther

That's great news, focus on serious over load on that working set and so long as the weight is heavy enough and your adrenalin is flowing keep banging those reps to complete failure then go into the pain zone and drop in somer forced, rest pause, dropset or negs then go home eat, slap your girls arse and relax

Did shoulders tonight early as I'm heading to the cinema. Hitted them hard with pyramid setting it's amazing how quickly your body adapts as pyramid setting isseriously tough compared to before when I was doing it. I'll throw up some pics later

Hello guys I've just finished reading this thread and like everyone else would like to say thank to Marcus, Kelkel, panntastic and everyone else who has contributed.

    Enough of the arse kissing

I've taking some great motivation for the gym from this thread, first time in my life I've been throwing up from the intensity. I'm no where near as strong and big as some of you guys (especially the big guy) but I WILL BE!

Hopefully I can learn a bit more about carb cycling because I think this is we're I am struggling so any additional snippets of info please feel free to share your knowledge.

Fantastic thread Marcus and btw in north east England so if there's a chance of a training session when it's suitable let me know. I don't think I could manage half of what you lift but the experience would be greatly appreciated!

There are some great threads in the nutrition section regarding carb cycling but you have to remember nothing is static when using cab cycling and look and listen to your body daily and adjust accordingly. To many people run CC to the letter from what someone writes and it doesn't work like that because we are all different and different goals. When I cut I cut very slowly that's how I do it because this way I don't burn away any muscle tissue and when your 250lbs and carrying a lot of tissue every lbs is so precious I will not burn it away by these get ripped fast diets what are the latest craze.. Yeh I know I am old school lol but it works.

You can also check out my priming thread which will help you understand about slow CC and also pre cycling priming.

You sir have a serious natural base and foundation, to look like that naturally is outstanding and don't take what I say lightly because you have thick set muscles, your carrying some great tissue and I can tell from just looking at you that your training HIT the Marcus way lol.....I'm not blowing smoke up your arse here I tell it like it is and let me tell you some guys who have cycled don't look half as good as you, your base and foundation is amazing for someone natural and what you have done with drugs is a credit to you, I know and can tell your training like I talk about in this thread your body tells me this....when you go on cycle your going to explode.

Keep doing what your doing, try and drop some bf slowly and keep that training going the Marcus style because you sir look great.. This is what its all about building the right base before any drugs, look at the thickness of your muscles, look and the dense bellies of them and that comes from this style of training...

I am really impressed and cant wait to see what you look like when you do finally cycle

Very good interview. I like the way he keeps things simple and to the point.

Same, when you watch some other videos the bb'ers sound more like marketeers than actually weight lifters do this but while you are doing that use this or that product, I am amazed they don't start putting loads of turbo badges on supps like you used see on cars in the late 80's and mid 90's
